For me there's nothing after /Count for both, It's all empty
Thanks Bourrin, that could be very significant. I have to say I have no idea what the content of this key is- but I can say certain bits change simply by flipping auto-arrange (with the icons already 'auto arranged').

Here's just part of what I have after Count\

and I've attached a zip of just that value in the key (HRZR_PGYFRFFVBA:)

..I'd agree with Gibbs- you just have to see how prevalent the reports of this are over several generations of Windows, with apparently no identified root cause or reason. That's why I'm hoping these registry entries may give a clue.. if the change is in them that gives rise to the symptoms, then the question remaining is 'What changed them?'. That could be hard.

Tomorrow I'll try removing everything after Count and see what happens.

For what it's worth, I definitely have the problem in question but the Count key is filled with stuff similar to how yours looks (though different values.) So it looks like it's not totally empty across the board, unless I'm the odd one out. I've attached the contents of my key for your reference.

I see many posts about ESET NOD32 posted here.

I dearly love Windows 10 Forum but surely these posts would be better posted here ESET Security Forum

Hi, I have this problem too. ( I have Eset AV too)
Today I got first W10 update for the first time after the problem has started (Update:KB3087040)
But I couldnt install the update. It gave an error 0x80004005
When I searched this error code, I saw its about the permission of changing the registry.
I think Windows cannot change the registry therefore windows cannot remember icon positions and folder view settings.
I hope you find the solition. I dont want to reinstall windows.

Lets gather all facts we know about it.
    1. I noticed everybody with this problem is using NOD / ESET antivirus
    2. There is also some kind of trojan virus.
That is all we know for now.
In my case, there was perfectly hidden win32/obfuscator.xz virus. After 12 hours I managed to remove it thanks to this 7step guide: Remove VirTool:Win32/Obfuscator.XZ (Virus Removal Guide)
I recommend to everyone download Microsof Safety Scaner (Microsoft Safety Scanner - Free Virus Scan with the Microsoft Safety Scanner
) right now and start full scan (if you cant open this link, it means you have malware in your computer and its not going to let you download it).
Note: ESET, nortron, avast, avg etc. will never find it.

My icons and folders still doesnt work. I think trojan has damaged windows and there is no way how to restore it without REINSTALL WINDOWS.
Incorrect. Sorry but I don't have a virus and it still happened.
