issue with deleting duplicate Desktop folder

    Howdy folks!

I am new to tenforums, having my normal residence at sevenforums. But I'm attempting to help my wife with her fairly new (June) Asus Tuf laptop with Win10 Pro Version 1909 Build 18363.1256, AMD Ryzen7, 16GB RAM

She somehow ended up with 2 Desktop folders showing under ThisPC and no Pictures folder. I ran the program listed in the tutorial in this forum
( Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10)

to merge the 2 Desktop folders. Now it shows only 1 in ThisPC and still 2 in Users\ebeet (my wife initial and part of last name).

The icons for the 2 in her Users folder both correctly show a computer screen and in properties says Desktop. The 1 listed under ThisPC has a Pictures icon although in Properties on General Tab it says Desktop. But when you go to Location Tab it says for Target location C:\Users\ebeet\Pictures.

So the Regedit file removed the duplicate listing in the File Tree but things aren't right. Trying to change the location in Properties didn't work.

I've attached a snip to show both folders.

Any suggestions on a solution would be helpful, and thanks in advance! happy New Year to ya!
    Michael

Oh darn it! It's the same issue but no resolution posted. Hmm. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Can't remember the fix.

    Have you run an SFC?

Ok I went to that thread, and the last post after you clarified your problem is someone asking if the desktop.ini file got overwritten. Was that the problem? Because I don't see anything indicating that it was, or what you did to resolve the situation.

no I haven't run SFC. I guess I will go try that.

I've got to ditch for a while. I just went Google happy and unfortunately the advice in this weird bug kinda leads to doing a system restore. I think the bug indicates a corruption that can't simply be fixed. Which is perhaps why I never listed a solution.

Be careful with a 'refresh' or 'restore' because you may need to back up files and later reinstall stuff.

Hopefully someone else knows this bug and the solution better than I.

Thanks anyway. Ran SFC which said it found some corrupt files and repaired them, however it didn't fix the issue. restarted, same. Ran the Regedit batch file again, no change.

I think I know what might be going on. One of the folders is actually the pictures folder and is using a "Localized Resource Name"....Go to File Explorer options and enable view system files & view hidden files.

Go to your wifes userprofile (C:\Users\ebeet), go to the "Desktop" folder that is actually the "Pictures" folder and inside it move the desktop.ini file somewhere else.

    Go back to the userprofile
(C:\Users\ebeet) refresh the window a couple of times pressing F5 and wait a little...

    ricardobohner,

Thank you for the help, as I was able to mostly resolve the issue.

The Desktop listing under ThisPC now points correctly to the desktop, and shows the one file currently there, which is the snip from my original post. The only other things are icon for ThisPC and Recycle Bin, but they do not show in File Explorer under ThisPC> Desktop.

The Desktop listing under Users>ebeet also points to the same thing.

In both cases Properties show General and the correct location.

The only thing I haven't been able to rectify is the icon for the desktop listed under ThisPC, which shows a picture icon. I tried substituting a Win10 icon I downloaded that looks more like a Desktop icon, but it doesn't seem to take. Maybe I will try again and leave it be after I hit apply and come back later. Minor thing.

Thanks a lot for your help and Feliz año nuevo
