accidently deleted pictures folder but restored folder mising pictures

i was showing my wife how to delete and un delete(restore) folders on my pc and right click deleted the pictures folder in my user files.

then went straight to the recycle bin and right clicked restore and then went to user files and low and behold the pictures folder was back but with one tiny problem.

    all my pictures were missing!!!!!!!!

i have deleted and restored hundreds of files and folders etc over the last 20 odd years and this is the first time i have encountered this problem

why has this happened and is there a solution?

i am trying windows file recovery app cmd summat.
i have tried recuvva and it didnt find anything.
i have not emptied the recycle bin and 2 small text files already in there are still in there.

    Hello @aljaxon,

[1]Are you sure that you used Delete rather than Shift + Delete, because the latter deletes the files immediately without putting them in the Recycle Bin first?

[2] Have you got a System Image that you could Restore to?
[3] Were you in her User Account when you tried to Restore the files?

    • Each User Account on the PC has their own separate Recycle Bin.

    I hope this helps.

Have you got it synced to onedrive if so they should be there. If the photos were large they may be to big for the bin and deleted straight away

    just one account

    right click delete

and then opened recylcle bin and there was my pictures folder

    right click restore
    folder restored ok but empty

not synced to one drive as im wary of stuff out there for evil hackers to mess with.

for some reason system restore was on but size was at 0 so i had no restore points???

photos were small. not from a camera but some online and from iphone.

i managed to get them all using some software stella data recovery but it would not find me the few jpegs from the pictures folder and instead no matter what i set it to took an age to find them and if i sorted the list by size or date each click resulted in 10 mins sorting.

wonder why windows deletes this way and disables restore?

As Samuria posted, If the files were to big Windows will just delete them. You should have seen a warning message.

winuser the files were not too big

i have seen that warning plenty of times.
    but not in this instance.

    most were small jpegs.

like i said in my first post.
    and in my second post.

i have managed to recover them

I think what winuser is referring to is the Folder size, not the actual Files sizes.

    I hope this helps.
