    NTUSER.DAT.LOG Files Question

AFAIC figure out there are two system (usually hidden) files in C:\Documents and Settings LOG1 and LOG2.

But I have these two files in C:\Users\USER where USER is my name. I don't have access to Documents and Settings so I can't tell if they are there too. There are some problems with corrupted user names that I could never figure out -- could this be the reasos? If so, how can I fix?

    Thanks.

C:\Documents and Settings does not really exist in Windows 10. What you have found is a redirection point to C:\Users\%Username%

Please would you explain what you mean by, "some problems with corrupted user names".

C:\Users\%Username% does indeed contain your user profile, ntuser.dat
Your mention of log files does ring a vague bell. I think they are current changes to your ntuser.dat that will get fully absorbed when you log out / restart.

Added - These are the notes I kept about the subject of the log files
How much of this ntuser.dat stuff can I delete [Ghot] - TenForums
    ntuser.dat - TenForums
What Is the ntuser.dat file - HTG
What Is the ntuser.dat file - Techwalla

    Thank you.

There is a folder named Documents and Settings, but access to it is denied.

I was actually incorrect: there are NTUSER.DAT.LOG files in all the users under C:\Users. So i assume you mean they should be there.

But there are some other files with them, e.g.:

    ntuser.dat{9dba78f7-7166-11e7-83ce-4c348809bac7}.TMContainer00000000000000000001.regtrans-ms

which are rather old -- I guess when the users were created on the system. Are they necessary?

    I will review your links.

Oh, about the problems: it's been a while and my memory is not as good as it used to. But I was trying to do something and the system wold not let me either saying or suggesting there was something wrong with the user accounts (I think I cannot add accounts) May have something to do with the fact that Windows10 was upgraded in place from a lower Windows OS, but can't vouch for that.

No. It just looks like a folder. It is a redirection point. You can ignore it. It only exists to assist compatibility with old applications. Your user data is in C:\Users\%Username%

You will see references to the regtrans-ms files in the linked discussions. I think the consensus was that they could be deleted but I just let get mine cleared out when I run Disk Cleanup - TenForumsTutorials
