    Desktop Icons

    Desktop Icons

My PC is 12 days old and Windows was reinstalled on 12/14/20.
I have 12 desktop icons. When I open the Desktop folder, only 6 icons are listed.

I activated to show hidden files. But, only 6 icons appear. See screenshot

I have another Dell computer XPS 8920, and I don’t see the same issue on it.

How can I get all 12 icons to appear in my Desktop folder?

    Thanks,

    Jerry

Might right-click a blank area of the desktop and click View, some choices there that usually help. Can also right-click the Taskbar then Toolbars then click on Desktop, can get an icon on the Taskbar with 2 small arrows, click that to see if all shortcuts/icons are listed there.

Going to your last suggestion, yes all of the shortcuts were listed.

Try some of the choices in that first View, possible for icons to be "stacked" or offscreen and may only need rearranging.

Some of your desktop shortcuts may actually be in C:\Users\Public\Desktop(shown as "Public Desktop" in File Explorer). Also, open Settings, Personalization, Themes, scroll down to "Desktop icon settings" and see if any of those boxes are checked.

I see six items in your Desktop folder, five items in your Public Desktop folder and one item checked in Desktop icon settings, exactly matching the twelve icons on your desktop.

    Hello Ben –
Thanks for figuring this out for me.
    Question –
I have another computer with the same desktop icons. Why are those all listed under my Desktop folder. And, is there a method to get all of my desktop icons listed under my Desktop folder?

You might find that there are no items in the Public Desktop folder of that computer.

You can probably move them from your Public Desktop folder to your Desktop folder, but that will mean that other users of your computer may not have those icons on their desktop. Additionally, uninstalling the program may fail to remove the moved Desktop icon. Also, I don't think the Recycle bin ever shows up as an item in the Desktop folder, but it can be removed from the Desktop by unchecking the box in Themes, Desktop icon settings.
