    Control panel slow to open.

I've got this issue with Control panel taking a few seconds to open while other times it opens instantly. Occasionally on a clean boot I've seen Google Chrome show the same behavior taking a good few seconds to open the browser after I've clicked the icon in the toolbar. Then most of the time it opens instantly.

I'm on the current 20H2 .685 build and DISM/SFC health checks are normal. However this has been going on for some time back on Win 10 2004 and possibly 1909. I can't think what the issue could be...

How much RAM do you have? What kind of PSU do you have? What kind of CPU do you have?

For the record, the old control panel or the new settings?

The old control panel. I also have a shortcut to power options that I created on my desktop which shows the same behavior when I open it.

Hi Matt I don't have that issue and I use (old) Control Panel all the time. IN fact I had in pinned to my taskbar.

That said brink has a reg tweak you can add to your Context menu to access it and it includes the All Tasks (God mode) panel. Not saying this is going to solve your issue, but it's just another way to access the Control Panel - Add Control Panel to Context Menu in Windows 10

And I don't think your issue is memory related as I too am running 32gig of RAM, but....

The old uses Windows Explorer, it can take a small bit to open if there is other stuff going on. Also if Windows has been installed on your machine for a while and stuff like temp items, etc have not been cleaned up, yes the system has to move stuff around and stop or pause processes until Explorer opens for Control Panel.

I clean installed Win 10 2004 on my machine only a few months ago. Not a lot of temp files, cleaned them all today with no change.

There is a pattern to the lag of the control panel opening. First boot in Windows it takes 3-4 seconds to open. If I continue to reopen it it opens instantly each time thereafter. It's only when I stop for 30 secs to a minute before reopening it again that it lags with the same 3-4 seconds.

I booted into safe mode and there is no control panel lag like in a normal boot...

    Try to apply this:
    Code:
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v "SeparateProcess" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
    reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer" /v "DesktopProcess" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f
shexview - Options - Hide Microsoft entries - temporarily disable the rest to see, if it makes any difference.

What are the reg keys? Is shexview better than disabling user services with MSCONFIG?
