    Task Scheduler Stops Running

    Windows 10 20H2 OS build: 19042.685

Task Scheduler has stopped working for some reason. Here is the error:

    Code:
Faulting application name: svchost.exe_Schedule, version: 10.0.19041.546, time stamp: 0x058e175aFaulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.662, time stamp: 0x27bfa5f0Exception code: 0xc0000374Fault offset: 0x00000000000ff0f9Faulting process ID: 0x54cFaulting application start time: 0x01d6cf770dfeee1dFaulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exeFaulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dllReport ID: df8e0696-723a-42f4-a6bd-eb029a7fd535Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:
The error will then repeat several times.

    I'm also getting:

    Code:
Unable to open the Server service performance object. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the status code.
    And this:

    Code:
Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2120-11-17T17:01:07Z. Error Code: 0x80041315.
I've ran sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and no issues were found.

Also ran Malwarebytes just in case but all was OK.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hello otronics,
Does this problem occur if you boot into safe mode?

More things to try Task Scheduler not running? Here’s how to fix it

I've not tried it in Safe Mode. This problem seems to be happening at random times. The PC is on 24/7 doing various things (although reboots daily) so I can't really try it.

I've had a look at the link you've sent. Nothing obvious there.

The Task Scheduler works fine when I start it manually and it's a recent build of Windows (clean install 3 months ago).

    Cheers.

Hello @otronics, are you using a Remote Desktop Connection?

Take a look through Event Viewer for clues when this happens. Don't get lost in there /cheers

I was searching Google to try and find an answer for you and came across a couple of postings where the error was related to Remote Desktop Connection, so I thought I would ask the question!

    I hope this helps.

Ah I see. No I don't use Windows RDC.

Nothing else obvious in Event Viewer other than Task Scheduler is crashing and not restarting.

I now realise though that this error is a result of Task Scheduler not working:
    Code:
Failed to schedule SoftwareProtection service for re-start at 2120-11-17T17:01:07Z.ErrorCode:0x80041315.

    Fixed it.

The solution was to run chkdsk.

    It found some errors.

I had to reboot, it fixed said errors and Task Scheduler is now working.

    Thanks.
