Monitor suddenly going to sleep while playing a CD.

I've had the same power settings for over a year.

I frequently play CDs. I have the settings so that the screen goes off after 20 minutes of inactivity.

However, when I play a CD (and they're all longer than 20 minutes), it usually waits until it's done playing, then the screen turns off right after.

Today, the screen has been turning off while it's playing. And not waiting until the end, or sometime thereafter.

    I am on Version 10.0.18363 Build 18363.

However, I am prompted to update Windows, so that may change tonight.

With the screen set to go off after 20 minutes of inactivity... it will.
In other words, if "nothing" on the screen changes (images, mouse cursor movement, etc.), the screen will go off.

When you say: "play a CD", I assume you mean a music CD.

I have my screen set to go off after 5 minutes. When playing music, I use WMP, and have it set to show a waveform, that changes with the music. This keeps my screen ON.

Keep in mind, that anything that moves the mouse (cursor) even the tiniest bit, will keep the screen ON.
For example, loud enough music can move the mouse, especially very sensitive mice.

WMP has a setting that stops the screen going off. Perhaps you have set that setting.

Check in WMP, Organise, Options, Player tab - Allow screen saver during playback.

Yes, I knew that from your first post.

The OP also needs to unset that setting.

Yep. I just tested again. It's NOT the waveform I show in WMP, it's that checkbox.
    Good look Denis.

Ok, I think that is on the right track. I used to use WMP to play CDs.

I would push play, then not touch the mouse.

What would always happen is that after the 50 - 80 minutes were up and it was done playing, a few seconds after that, the monitor would turn off.

I also have my sleep setting for 1 hour, so if it was a 60 minute CD, then the computer would then go to sleep.

I have been using WMP player like this for over a year, and have not been moving the mouse.

The monitor would stay on, during that time.

I must have had that setting unchecked.

Recently though, I have switched to VLC Player.

So maybe there's something with that player. Do you know what option I can look for, in that player?

I know nothing about VLC but you might try looking through VideoLAN's wiki website.

    Best of luck,
