    Open File Warning Notification Help?

    Hi everyone!

I'm a little baffled. I'm not a pro when it comes to IT but I'll have a good go at trying to work things out. I need my Win 10 Pro laptop to pass an external office audit. As part of the audit it must issue a Open File Warning message when opening certain file types.

The file types I'm having issues with are:

    .bat
    .exe
    .com

Every time I download and open the test files they run automatically without first issuing the open file warning message.

Are there changes I can make in the registry or GPO editor that would force the warning message regardless of file type being opened? I'm at a loss, I've tried a considerable amount of fixes and so far nothing has worked.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Dewi

Your office IT department should be able to set this up for you. If you don't have an IT dept, then whomever is requiring the audit should be able to help you with this.
If you login to the Domain of your company, these changes would be applied in the Domain Controller Active Directory, they would not be issued on the local workstation.
If you're on a Local Peer to Peer network with no IT, you can read more on this here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...iting-overview

    Hello @darchy81,

If it is a local setting that has been changed, then maybe it is the opposite of this . . .

These might also be helpful . . .

    I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the support and advice. Rectified user account group policies on win server 2016 and amended to include high risk extensions. Since applying its done the trick and rolled out to all devices.
