"Get rid of blank icon in control panel?" This is an old post 2007 for XP, but it still applies to Windows 10. It requires editing the registry, so you'll need to backup the registry prior to removing any entries. This is totally your call, if your comfortable removing brain cells from Windows.
There is a procedure in
Hide Specified Control Panel Items - TenForumsTutorials [Option 2]
that I think you can still use even though your item has no identifying label.
If you get stuck partway through I think your best bet would be to post a question on that tutorial thread.

Many Thanks for the replying:
But i have found that i also could no longer download an update: so i have try the follow solution i have foundhere.
Run service.msc en stop windows update.
Now open Windows Explorer and go to: C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution. Select all files and folders in C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution and delete them. So empty the folder completely.
Then run windows update en restart he computer.
Then i could update again en the blanc icon was also gone.
Novan,
There are lots of suggested methods for resetting Windows update but many are incomplete. I found that the most effective method was to use the batch file provided in
Windows Update - Reset - TenForumsTutorials
so, if you have any problems in the future, do consider using that instead.
All the best,
Denis
