Is LOCK supposed to turn off power to PC?

On my Old Dell 1440 I run Windows 10 20H2 and use the LOCK (off Start Menu) when I am finished. I am using the Laptop only on AC power usually. I have noticed since about last 1-2 weeks that my PC never powers off, i.e., Power Button remains on. Prior to that, when I did a LOCK the PC would eventually power down and button would go off.

Which is the correct operation? LOCK and Power Button light remains ON forever, or LOCK and power button light and light goes off ? It in the past would power down after some time period. Now, after no changes to my POWER options it stays on forever unless I specifically shut down. Note: the differnence may have begun after installation of Windows 10 29H2.

I don't have a "Lock" function off my "Start" menu on either my 1909 laptop, or my 20H2 Windows desktop. I have "Sign out, Sleep, Shutdown, or Restart. If I want to use "Lock" I have to Ctrl + Alt + Delete to get to Lock. Also, Lock does not power off the PC, it simply locks it so no one else can use it.

That said, if you're talking about a Lock button built into the laptop itself, perhaps there's a setting there that allows you to change button functions? If so, did the function change and can you change it back? I don't have a "Lock" button on my laptop, but my desktop keyboard has a Lock button that can be assigned to do different things. I currently have it at it's default "Lock" function, but it can be configured to say open programs for example.

Again, no lock function off the start menu for either my 1909 laptop or my 20H2 Windows desktop. What am I missing?

Lock function should be from the account and not the power option from start.

Lock is available on the Open-Shell Shutdown menu. You can also press the Windows key+L. Or as stated CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose Lock. This Locks the computer screen so if you walked away it would keep others from taking over your computer, you would have to type your Password to Unlock it to use it. Most Office and Enterprise Users have this automatically enabled after a specific time for security reasons. Lock just locks the screen, it does not put it to Sleep or Hibernate.

I frequently use the Windows key + L to lock the screen.

I see it now. You actually have to click on the user name to get the Lock option. Forgot about that option. Anyway I use the Lock function on my keyboard. Prior to that used to Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

True that button isn't user customizable; though I'm sure @Brink has a reg fix to do so? :)

That said, if you have a Lock button on a keyboard, as I do, the button is customizable.

    Thanks.
