drag and drop - windows 10

    windows 10 pro version 2004 build 19041.630

I've been using program launcher powerpro for 15 or more years with no problems under windows XP and windows 7.
    PowerPro

Now, under windows 10, I'm having a problem with dragging and dropping files from the file manager onto programs started by powerpro.

For example, if I launch winmerge with powerpro, drag and drop does not work. (Note: if I run winmerge from a desktop shortcut, drag and drop works.)

I've tried running powerpro in compatibility mode for windows 7 - no joy.

Why is this happening and how can this be fixed?

    Thanks

    Have you run---Program Compatibility Troubleshooter---?
Does Reliability History give any entries for the problem?
    Run---sfc /scannow---and---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth---and see if they fix any possible corruption.
The only other option I can think of,is to use VirtualBox,with either XP or Win7 installed.

Malwarebytes doesn't like the PowerPro web site:

I did all that - there is no corruption. There never was a problem under windows 7 or windows XP.
Also, winmerge runs under powerpro - except for the drag and drop. I don't need VirtualBox. I'd just like to know why window 10 prohibits drag and drop - this makes no sense to me at all.
    Thanks for the reply!

Thanks, but I've been running powerpro for years. I don't think it contains a Trojan.

What version of PowerPro do you have? Are you using the Unicode or non-Unicode version? Are you using any of the Plugins?

    There are several choices:

Try different versions, see if that makes a difference. Doesn't matter what worked before, only matters what works now, try it.

    powerpro version 5.3.37h1, no plugins.

I've tried various versions - they all worked the same way.

    Back to my original question:
If I start winmerge from a desktop shortcut, drag and drop works.
If I start winmerge from powerpro, winmerge works, except drag and drop does not work. (EG, I can open files from the file menu, but not by using drag and drop.)
Why does windows 10 block drag and drop? A program is a program is a program until windows 10 says it isn't? I cannot think of any reason why drag and drop depends on how a program is started. Security? Permissions? Bug?

PowerPro is somehow causing the problem. Some hook it has into the GUI is not the same as it was pre-Win 10 and that is causing the problem.

Can you contact them? The Yahoo Group is dead so no way to get help there.

Take a look at your Extensions with ShellExView v2.01 - Shell Extensions Manager. If you see any for PowerPro disable them one at a time and see if that makes a difference,

ShellExView shows no references to powerpro.
