Windows 10 search no results, requires ending Cortana.exe
Hi all,
I've been having this issue with my windows search for the last week since doing a clean install on my PC. Sometimes, when I try to search something up, the search would remain blank and have the blue dots rolling (it's working on something?) and no results would show. In order to fix this, I would have to end Cortana in task manager and wait for it to start back up.
Why is windows search hanging every now and then? Is there a way to permanently fix this so that I don't have to keep ending Cortana?

I'm having the same problem.

In an admin command prompt:
Code:
reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "AllowCortana" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search" /v "AllowCortana" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Can you explain what this registry change will do?

It will disable Cortana from search - if you go to search settings Cortana will be disabled by company policy and grayed out.
If you need to revert it, change the 0 to 1.
There are too many reasons Cortana can fail, from the locale used to dns filtering, so if you don't have use for it, it's better left disabled for a responsive search and start menu.

I did the registry add at an elevated command prompt, but still having same problem.
