    new problem with laptop sleeping

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? My laptop will no longer go to sleep. When I close the lid, the screen turns off, but when I re-open it, it will not turn back on. The laptop itself remains on, but at this point, I need to to a hard reboot. I found this one recent article, and some of the people in the comments section are having the same problem.

Everything worked normally until about a week or two ago.

Geralt of Rivia hello and welcome to tenforums ,
Please try disabling Windows "fast startup".

    From an administrator powershell
    Code:
     powercfg /requests
to see if anything is preventing it from sleeping.

Check the power plan settings to confirm what closing the lid is supposed to do.

Others have reported similar problems recently.

sleep versus hibernate versus hybrid sleep this person had a similar problem. You might want to browse through the thread staring at the end after looking at the post I linked.

Thanks, Steve. I'll give these things a try. It's weird that it just started happening recently. I seem to remember a windows update just getting pushed out to my laptop, too.

Also check that the BIOS and drivers are up to date from the PC manufacturer website.

    powercfg says 'none' for requests.
Also, fast startup is off, and laptop is set to sleep when lid closed.

Not only does the screen not come back on when the lid is opened, but the computer will turn itself off eventually. It seems to be the process of going to sleep that messes things up. I left it running in my office earlier today, and it's supposed to go to sleep after 2 hours. When I came back in this afternoon, the laptop was totally off. Same thing happens if I close the lid, and then open. Screen stays black for a few minutes, then the machine totally powers off. Ugh.

According to winver command, what version are you using?

Try uninstalling video card in Device Manager, then reboot, and it will reinstall. This might fix it.

    v1909
    build 18363.1198

Even tried removing display adapter, and reinstalling, but no joy. It really seems like this is a windows thing since I was good all this time, and then blam. It's like the laptop won't even go to sleep. It tries to, but then just shuts down.
