I upgraded an 8 year old, Acer Aspire One netbook which has a 1.6Ghz Atom cpu and 1.5GB of RAM. The upgrade went smoothly (although it took 2.5 hours) and everything seems to work as it should. Performance is adequate (the netbook never was a speed demon) to perform "normal" tasks like web surfing, email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc...
I'm running a system that's very similar, slightly newer video card, but 2.3ghz AMD CPU, only 2 gb of Ram, but I;ve got several TB of storage.
I've got Windows 7 running on one partition, and I installed 10 fresh on a new 1 TB HDD. At first, it had no drivers at all, and my Mouse would not work. I had to buy an activation. But after that, Windows 10 started finding my hardware and it installed all of my drivers no sweat. The only thing it did not find was my ancient Brother HP-1230 Laser printer. I had to use an XP driver, and that required 16-bit support, which activated on it's own during the driver install. Without the 16 bit support, the printer does not work, so I probably would not be able to run 64 bit Windows 10 here.
Everything else has shown up, old GeForce 8400 GS Video card, the system works rather well except for some problems with iTunes 11.
The lowest spec machine I have knocking about, that can be setup without hassle, is a horrible Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop running XP.
AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-50, 1GB RAM, 80GB HDD, integrated ATI graphics.
There is no driver support for any OS beyond XP.
I think I'll put Win 10 on it for experimental purposes, lol.
I'll report back if I do.
You deserve some props for that, mate.
No joy, Win 10 won't install on the Inspiron 1501. Just getting the 0xC1900101 - 0x20017, Black Screen, error. Even booting from a USB gives the Black Screen. Tested the handful of BIOS settings you can actually change and it was the same story. Not that bothered enough to dismantle it and remove potentially problematic hardware, lol.
I did learn that it runs a billion times better with Windows 7, though. So that's a bonus; can probably use it, or give it away, for some purpose or another.
