1) In windows 10
2) open windows explorer,
3) select a pdf file
4) click on View and select "Preview pane or window"

That's all.
I think the problem may be that your pdf file associations have been disrupted. I went through this problem before with windows 10, where it would not show the pdf thumb image in windows explorer, and the preview pane only showed the message "this file cant be previewed". After going thru my pdf program's phone support, they advised me to re-install my pdf program and make sure in the options that the "shell associations" are enabled. That is what establishes the link between the pdf and windows explorer images.
I find some of the answers that Microsoft gave , ludicrous.
I had pdf's previeiwng in file explorer for several months, however just this afternoon that stopped.
That drove me to search for answers. Microsoft has a bug no doubt. I tried desperatelyto remember what may have happeneed to cause this sudden end to this very helpful feature, but I could not pinpoint any event that may have caused the issue.
As always Microsoft has pitiful support whether you pay for it or are fortunate to get gratis help.
I am disgusted at this point.
WEll folks Out of desparation I simple rebooted my machine and guess what!!! The problem disappeared, may be the Microsoft tech will read this and learn that you do indeed can preview PDF's in file explorer Just that sometimes something in the Operating system decides to take a vacation.
Thanks for all thatt may attempt to answer my predicament.
