Auto-start computer at 9am daily - best approach?

I'd like to shut down my computer and have it start back up each morning at 9am. I've never used the Sleep or Hibernate modes, so I'm not sure if that would be good or to use an AC switch the turns the power on at 9am. What's the best approach?

You can certainly schedule a task to wake/resume your PC:

Apparently some PCs support scheduling boot up in their BIOS: e.g.

I 1st tried doing it with Task Scheduler and it didn't work. I'm sure I had some settings in either Power Management or BIOS that needed changing, but then I saw the alternate way of using the BIOS.

That looked even better and more like what I really wanted to turn off the computer completely and then have it automatically turn on at 9am every day. Well this morning there it was booted up just like I asked it - perfect. What's also really nice is if I go out of town I can simply unplug the power cord to the computer and won't have to go into the BIOS.

So thanks and thanks to the greatest computer forum out there - much appreciated!

Glad you found a way that worked. Hopefully the scheduled task idea still works with modern standby e.g.

My old Gigabyte computer has been working great starting up from a cold start at 9am everyday. I'm trying to do the same thing for a more recent computer, even though it's 5 years old. it's a AsRock Z97 motherboard.

In the BIOS it has a setting under power management called "RTC alarm power on" I can choose Enabled or "By OS". When I choose enabled I then have a screen with time and date to set. I have it set for everyday at 9:30am. It never works. I have Fast Boot disabled, but don't know what other settings may be disrupting this from happening.

    Any suggestions?

I'm still trying to get this to work. I turned off fast startup in Win 10 and fast Boot in the BIOS - still not working. Any clues?

I went to the Asrock forum and searched and found a solution. In BIOSACPI HPET TABLE - disable this.

    HPET and RTC were conflicting.
