    Credentials Manager terminated - Access Denied

    Succeeded at getting my PCs connected to private WiFi network
    Now when I copy a file from one computer to the other I get the error
    message "Destination Folder Access Denied." Event Viewer reports error 7023,
    "The Credentials Manager service terminated with error message Access is denied. "
    What should I do to get the Credentials Manager working?

    Some people have reported a problem with the credentials manager after upgrading to 2004.
    Upgrade to version 2004 (may 2020) giving issues with credentials
    Post #1 there links to a suggested fix.

    Did your problem start after upgrading, or some time later? Yours may or may not be related.

    Researching
    The Credentials Manager service terminated with error message Access is denied
    yields results which may help you.

    E.g.

    has an interesting looking download per O/S

    I noticed the problem when I tried to copy a file from one computer to the another both computers are connected to a private WiFi netwok. I wonder if the problem might have been caused by running Outbyte PC Repair tool or by running Bleachbit? I recently started using them.

    Outbyte PC Repair is not the most beloved program out there. In fact, a simple Google search shows it has quite the bad reputation as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) and even malware.
    You should not install any 3rd party Optimization programs, especially ones that cost money. Windows 10 has built in features that do the same thing that are included in the OS.
    You can do a System Restore to a date and time before this happened.

    I can restore from backed-up image files of the System partition;
    would rather do a Clean Install;
    considering using Ninja to clean obsolete files,
    update with Windows Update and run Windows Security,
    backup with Macrium Reflect to USB hard drive.

    How to change Credentials Manager

    Have 2 notebook computers connected to private WiiFi network. File Explorer shows both computers but when I Sign-in to one of the computers a Windows Security message requests I Enter network credentials for a user name that is incorrect.

    I went to Services/Credentials Manager and found it was not running. I tried to start it but could not (error 1079). Next I clicked on Properties and then on the LogOn tab. There I found an entry call Account ----- I clicked on it and a list of users appeared. One user was WDAG Utility Account; I believe left there from a technical support session with Microsoft. I tried to delete the entry and could not delete it. Unable to reconnect with MS; initial problem caused by wind storm that interrupted power - For the past 2 days when I try to connect with MS through my browser I get we are trying to connect with you.

    Can someone help me.

    i made a System Restore; Credentials Manager still not running but I am no longer being asked to sign-in to an unknow user account. I ran Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool. it reported an error. I attached the log to another post made today.

    Kenneth,

    The WDAGUtilityAccount is created by Windows defender. Everybody has it.
