screenshot of constant recurring issue. icons, backround, time gone

It is fine for a few days of up time, then things start to go away, usually like this, the time fails to update, gets stuck
    the background goes black
    Various icons start vanishing
gets steadily worse and after a week, it looks like this image.

It can though miraculously all reappear by itself without a reboot, reboots always fixes it temporarily.

This happens on 2 of my win10 pc, and every malware scan I run never shows anything wrong.

    version is latest 1909

The mouse menus and chrome and apps all work fine, windows left menu icon works fine brings up apps.

I updated the OS to version 2004, so lets see if the issue goes away.
First off make sure nvidia driver is greater than or equal to version 358. win2004 wont install if the video driver version is too low, or worse yet, it updates and you get a blue screen, boy that's bad..

Another observation, if I right click desktop, it forces all the missing stuff to reappear.

"Nvidia and Microsoft have found incompatibility issues with certain versions of Nvidia display adapter drivers and Windows 10, version 2004 (the Windows 10 May 2020 Update). Windows 10 devices with affected Nvidia display driver versions might receive a stop error with a blue screen or other issues during or after installing the update to Windows 10, version 2004. The affected drivers are any version lower than 358.00."

I was offered the update on the PC with the older GTX260 video card, so I hope it really does work on this one, the block was lifted, MS says it is fixed. Last time I looked, it was not offered.

So far today will have updated 3 PC to 2004. I hope it fixes this problem I have on 2 of the PC's. I have 5 PC running win 10.

What made me think malware, was the problem a year ago or so, appeared on just one PC, then it spread to another, and they acted very much the same way, then it appeared on a third PC, but it is very transitory and seldom an issue as in it fixes itself all the time and restores all the icons without reboot on that one, so I hardly notice it and I have a 2 in 1 notebook, and it is on my home network and never got the issue.

I decided to do the upgrade to 2004, on both PC's and the problem went away. This problem has hung around since before ver 1903, so far very happy to see it has not returned. I have also since then upgraded to 2OH2 and pleased with how things are running. So far so good, if it comes back I will certainly say so.

Who knows what it was, I even thought botnet, malware, it caused running out of resource issues, like the PC's were clogging up.

Solved only by upgrading to latest os win 10. Every release of the next version, I hoped it would be fixed by MS, and finally it feels like it was. I can't believe I was the only one affected.

Anther interesting observation. I have one PC left on 1909. It used to do this also, going black, icons disappearing. After upgrading all 4 other win10 PC on my home network to 2004 or 20H2, the 1909 PC has yet to do that weird thing again. Makes me wonder if something about my network was gobbling up my pc's resources, like a BOT NET.
When it would do this in the final stages before I had to reboot, the pc would slow down till it was about useless.

I would notice it on the 1909 PC when watching TV thru the PC, frames dropping, audio video out of sync, sure enough minimize player and it would be missing icons on the task bar.

So as an update, this has not happened again, not even once. It used to happen every few days.
