    Computer apparently gone

If there is a specific thread for this problem please make the move 🤠

My PC seems to have died. I found it shutdown this morning and it would not boot into windows stopping at the BIOS screen. I plugged in the flash drive full copy of Windows 10 and it would upon reboot it would not start into it's install. Now everything stops at the Megatrend page the F1 command does not start setup. The PC is current on my account page. I disconnect all of the drives except the boot drive still no joy getting it to start a fresh install. The system is 5 years old so if there is no suggested solution to my problem I will just upgrade to a Ryzen based system.

I forgot to mention both the keyboard and mouse are directly plugged into the PC.

    Hello transmaster,

It sounds like the hard drive Windows is installed on may have died.

Do you have another known working hard drive to test installing Windows on for this computer? Be sure to disconnect the possible dead drive first.

Maybe try a really minimal system.

Disconnect all drives and devices. Leave only the motherboard (with CPU and RAM), display adapter, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. (No Windows.) See if you can boot into the BIOS setup.

If you can't do that, try clearing the CMOS.

If that doesn't work, I'd assume that there's a hardware problem.

I'm not a PC technician. Just giving you the steps I'd try.

The Boot drive is a I TB Samsung EVO SSD. I do have a formatted 500 gig SSD. I was thinking if this was a HD this is the first thing I would have thought of.

Insert the bootable flash drive, restart the computer and when the Asus logo appears, press the F8 key and select "USB".

Installed a spare SSD still no joy stops at the America Megatrends page and the F1 command does not work. Code 99. It does list the Windows 10 flash drive. I removed the coin battery to reset the CMOS and still no joy. I have been having strange shut downs for several months now.

Looking at ASUS ROG motherboards now. 🤓

According to the manual, Q code 99 is "Super IO Initialization". I hope that it means more to someone else than it does to me.

Surprised that something failed after a mere 8 years.

This is what I found on the 99 error so far if it may help any:

    Super IO Initialization
This may be due to various reasons, a failure in the BIOS or defective or faulty motherboard. You can try to disconnect the Graphic Card and use integrated on the motherboard. If this does not work, another option would be to make a BIOS FLASHBACK to downgrade the BIOS, simply record the specific files to a USB pen drive, connect it to the PC and then turn on the PC by pressing FLASHBACK key on the motherboard for more detailed instructions you can check this video in Youtube:
