There are no normal sleep options. You click to enter Sleep, the screen goes black, the system stays on, no response from keyboard (so no normal key combinations to restart or shut down work).
Only a hard shutdown (holding down the power button for 10 seconds) and rebooting bring the system back.

Oh, and nothing in Event Viewer either. Just a long list of Kernal Power 41 errors.

Very odd. A second PC with
    Code:
The following sleep states are available on this system:
        Standby (S3)
    sleeps just fine.

Check mobo drivers if it ever comes back into your hands and I hope that laptop is wearing double masks

And this PC slept just fine on Windows 10 v1909, upgraded from Windows 7 Home.
Just on this Clean install did this happen.

I got PCs upgraded from W7 and Vista that both sleep fine with W10 2004 latest.

I've got 5 PCs on 2004. No power problems.

Compare their "powercfg /a" outputs maybe to see how they compare with LA bound Asus

Did you look at the sleep diagnostic logs? They indicate that it is going to sleep just fine:
    SetupDiagResults.log
    Confusing.

Do you guys remember this one? I've got this laptop back in my hands.

The problem persists: The laptop goes into sleep mode, from the Power menu, but freezes at a black screen and doesn't fully complete the process. It remains frozen there until I do a hard shutdown.
This problem started after a Clean Install of Windows 10 Home v2004.

I reviewed all the past posts and tried all the suggestions again:
    • rundll.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0 does the same thing as the Power Menu: tries to go to sleep, freezes.
    • Powercfg /a results in S3 only. Hibernation is OFF. Fast Startup is OFF.
    • Running the most recent correct driver from Nvidia for 610M graphics: v391.35, Standard driver
    • I ran powercfg /systemsleepdiagnostics again. I will attach html file here. The results report that the system has successfully gone into sleep on every attempt. There is no errors reported in the report.

    More things I've done:"

While the laptop was away, I had her try disabling the on-processor Intel graphics display adapter in Device Manager. This did not change anything. But she never re-enabled the device. When I got the laptop I noticed two things:
    • There was no Sleep option in the Power Menu
    • Nvidia Control Panel would not open, with the error message: "Nvidia display settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU"

I re-enabled the Intel display adapter and restarted.
    • Sleep was back on the Power Menu
    • The nVidia Control Panel worked again
    • Yes, you read that right.
    • Does not change the problem

Next, I disabled the Nvidia display adapter and restarted. I am now on Intel Graphics. Display Properties brings up the Intel Control Panel.
    • Does not change the problem

So now I am looking for more solutions.
I seems to me that Windows is going into Sleep Mode as it normally does. But something is going wrong after the "handoff". I just don't see any obvious problems in Windows.
I going to do a thorough check in the BIOS setting now....
