    Tutorial problem add remove sign out to W10 start/power menu

    Tutorial at Add or Remove Sign out Option in Windows 10 says there are two ways to do it: 2 for add and 2 for remove. Some time ago, I removed it and I am now trying to add it back in. Neither options work. I don't remember HOW I removed it either.

    So:
    method 1. Merge this .reg file:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00; Created by: Shawn Brink; Created on: February 27th 2018; Tutorial: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/105104-add-remove-sign-out-option-windows-10-a.html[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"StartMenuLogOff"=-[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]"StartMenuLogOff"=-
    Doesn't work.

    Method 2:

    Edit Group Policy which I cannot quote here but it is in the tutorial link.

    This does not work either.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>ver
    Microsoft Windows (10-64 PRO) [Version 10.0.19041.572]

    Any help is appreciated in advance.

    Hello @WacoJohn,
    Aside from the tutorial issue, what exactly are you trying to accomplish that a simpleton like me might follow?

    The reg file should look like this:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    ; Created by: Shawn Brink
    ; Created on: February 27th 2018
    ; Tutorial: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/105104-add-remove-sign-out-option-windows-10-a.html

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "StartMenuLogOff"=-

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "StartMenuLogOff"=-
    Can't be all in one line. Download it again then right click on it and select Merge.

    .
    Uhm .... it isn't all on one line. It is like you quoted. The one line thing came from me pasting the .reg file into this post. I did not notice it. To be sure, I will d/l again and give it a try. If it works, will come back and mark solved. Otherwise, will probably need some more help. Thank you both for the replies.

    Sign out has never been on the Start menu's Power options, but it is on Alt+F4 by default.

    To sign out from the Start menu or switch users you can click on you user icon.

    That is the default situation for a clean install of Windows 10.

    @WacoJohn,
    After applying the Add_Sign_out_option.reg I see "Sign out" in the
    1) Start menu (if I click on user name, but not power)
    2) Alt+F4 Shut Down Windows dialog
    and
    3) Win+X

    That agrees with what's shown on Add or Remove Sign out Option in Windows 10 if I'm not mistaken.

    Well, ... you are absolutely right ... as are the other replies. I could have sworn at one time, sign out was listed in start/power ... and in fact, I used the other .reg file to remove it. Right now, it is behaving as everyone including you says it should so I guess I have simply lost a little more of my mind.

    Thank you ALL for your attention, valuable time, and help.

    Have you ever installed Classic Shell or Open Shell? Its Windows 7 style Start menu would have had sign out as one of the shutdown options, same as the genuine article does here:

    No Classic/Open Shell installations have been done on these machines. They are all W10 Pro. Thank you for the reply.
