They may be planning to use it as a general dashboard for more Microsoft services in the future,
I agree, I think it's the new dashboard.

I noticed someone had that Phone Icon in their banner, similar to the icon in Settings > Phone, guessing they'd added "+" a phone, this banner icon alerting you about status changes. Of course it had a Yellow Caution '!' on top too, like many others, so it's possible it's there to pester you about something Microsoft feels you need. ;o|

Personally I find these YELLow !'s, the one's that can't be dismissed. a form human engineering, their intent - to get you to follow a course that Microsoft would prefer, like with OneDrive's Backup, 'coaxing' you to put all your Documents, Pictures, and Desktop files on their Cloud.

I had it on my Insider machine a whole bunch of Builds ago, got rid of it with the Mach2 Tool, haven't seen it since.

thanks Bree! My opinion of 2004? not ready for prime time.
BTW, do you have feature update blocked? Not install KB4023057 which as you may know removes the feature update block?
I'm hoping these settings will keep 2004 at bay awhile longer.

On the whole I'm happy to use 2004 on most of my machines, but I keep some test machines on earlier versions. That particular one is a VM, a standard install of 1909 with nothing special to try and block updates. The only precaution I take to avoid it upgrading to 2004 is being careful not to click 'Download and install' under the optional Feature Update offered in Windows Update.

Windows 10 is full of social engineering, compared to, say, Windows 95. It never pestered the user unless it was absolutely necessary. A strictly business, standalone operating system. And so very 90s in this regard, isn't it.

On the other hand I don't miss 95's stability/security issues, XP and Seven greatly improved upon their predecessors. They were only fit for their time, though. Can a commercially viable operating system exist without this layer of crap that's on Windows 10, in the 2020s ? That's the question.

I used to had this. But did not removed it, it disappeared automatically on some point. Haven't come back. I'm now on RP-channel.

My VirtualBox VM in Dev Channel has it with 3rd Icon Web Browsing.

    Hi All,

It eats up a third off my 14" 16:9 screen for absolutely nothing.
Hope they come up with something usefull.

... and it's gone again. Could be because I changed colour settings in customization, the timing seems about the same.

Yes, I "experienced" this header for a brief moment in time before I sought refuge in the Insiders Beta channel, where it's been thankfully and consistently GONE.

Currently at build 19042.610 and things have been generally smooth sailing (so far).

A useless and irritating feature to me; hope it does not return.
