Link to Music/Pics/Videos in Documents Folder

So I use a program called SyncBackPro to quickly backup my data from my computer to my external drive, it only mirrors the differences so the backup takes only a few seconds.

The other day I noticed that it is copying files from my Documents folder and the progress bar looked like it's going to take ages, and I also noticed in the file names that are being copied MP3s, MP4s, and whatnot so I was like what the heck, those are not in my documents those are in Music/Videos libraries.

I then enabled operating system hidden files and noticed there are 3 "shortcut" links to those libraries:

I simply deleted those folders and then the backup finished instantly.

Now they are not actual files, they are library links but I dont know why the program was treating them as if the files actually existed there.

I don't know why the heck would Windows put a link to those libraries in the documents folder but I noticed when I upgrade from Build 1909 to Build 2004 those library shortcuts are re-added.

I don't know about you but to me this is a problem to everyone out there as they may be backing up their data with duplicate files making the backup significantly larger due to this

    Thoughts?

I use SyncBackFree, which I guess is the free version of the program you use.

I assume your "documents" folder is somewhere under C:\Users.

Are you wedded to the idea of keeping your stuff in that location under C:\Users as opposed to, say, C:\Spartan, where I assume you would not have this problem?

I used to always move my user libraries to D:\Spartan but I stopped doing this because some apps/games will ignore the manually set location and insist on using C:\Spartan\LIBARY FOLDER

For anyone interested, this is the program we're talking about:

Are you wedded to libraries in general? I've never used them.

I save personal files directly to D and let Windows and applications put whatever they want under C:\Users----where I very rarely look at all.

I don't game and have no idea what complications that might cause.

Yes I've been organized like this, and I like the quick links to the libraries available everywhere from the User navigation pane on the left in file explorer and in the top row of library folder icons in Computer AKA This PC

Those junctions are there for backwards compatibility with old software that may have hard-coded paths that reflect an earlier verion of the User folders.

If you're not using ancient software, you don't need them. But as you've seen, Windows likes to recreate them. I've wondered if deleting them from the Default User Profile would prevent their creation/recreation but haven't tested.

They are the culprit behind the "failed to enumerate" errors users get when the try to take ownership/modify permissions recursively. I'm surprised your software traversed them!

Also strange, it says Computer rather than This PC. Did you rename it?

Other than that the Quick Access looks a lot like mine. Like you I use it all the time.

    KeithM,

Yes, Reputation and Badges thread. My link should have taken you straight to it - it's at the bottom of Cliff's post #1436

The design is intended to honour the fact that you know approximately 11,137.25% more about PowerShell than the rest of us.

    Here's another copy.

You can just right-click on it and use Save picture as to download a copy.

    Then you'll want to use
Settings [at the top of the page]
    Edit avatar
    to choose it for use.
