Different columns in FileExplorer depending on folder name?

I setup the following columns as default for all (new) folders:

    Name, Size, Date modified

Now I created a new folder with the name "work".

Yes, all columns are set accordingly.

Now I rename the folder to "_work" and the shown folders are automatically changed to

    Name, Date, Type, Size, Length

I think Win10 wants to put some "intelligence" on the folder setup. Why for "_work"?

Is the underscore an indicator for something? Maybe Win10 remembers some media files which are placed in such folder in the past?

Ok, I could adjust the columns manually. But I don't want this.

ALL folders should be automatically set to my previously defined one-and-only folder-column template.

No "smart" auto-adjustments by Win10 depending on the content should take place.

    How can I achieve this?

    • Windows doesn't normally use a single template for all folders, so share what hacks you've applied in the hopes of forcing that behavior.
    • When the columns change, viewing the Customize tab of the folder's Properties dialog should reveal what template is being applied. What does that say?
    • The default column set { Name, Date, Type, Size, Length } is associated with the Videos and Videos.Library FolderTypes. Are you re-puposing the user's default Videos folder?

I go to the View tab in File Explorer, set to Details then click Options on the right. Then I click its View tab and choose to Apply to all folders as that's how I usually need to see it.

Yes, it can do this for folder paths that get reused.

    You can
    reset all folder views
    then
set up the views you want for each of the different folder types [General, Documents, Music, Video, Pictures]
    and then
back up those view definitions ready for any need to restore them later on

Like Keith, I'd like to know
how you seem to have a single folder type ["all ... folders"]
    and
why you think it only affects new folders
so I can consider if the standard procedures remain valid in your case.

Note that, in the diagram above, there is no such thing as "Apply to all folders" but only "Apply to folders" for "all folders of this type".

    All the best,
    Denis
