losing metadata when transferring video files to usb stick

Recently, i obtained a 2tb usb stick. I connected to usb slot on my desktop computer (64 bit-windows 10)
I started transferring files and folders from other drives to free up space.
Folders and files disappeared, and other files didn't play. Some would.
I saw that the usb stick was in exfat. I formatted it, changing it to NTFS, as it was the only ther format available.
That seemed to have stopped files and folders disappearing. But many files would not play.
I decided to have a look at the properties of some of the files that wouldn't play, and discovered that they had no metadata.
Files that would play, did have.
I decided to copy a video file with metadata from a different drive onto the usb stick. Then i checked if metadata was still there. It was, and video played. Then I closed open programs, and restarted computer. Now the metadata of the file I had copied to the usb stick had disappeared, and file would no longer play.
So I guess my questions are (1) Is there any way to stop metadata disappearing? or (2) Can i recover lost metadata from multiple files at once. (3) Why did some of the transferred media files not lose their metadata.

    Welcome to TenForums!

First thing to do is check to see if this is really a legitimate 2TB flash drive. Check here for utilities that can be used to confirm this:

If the tests pass, let us know and we can explore other possible issues.

Agreed. Windows doesn't have a problem with exFAT, both of my WD My Book 4TB USB HDDs came that way. The key to the reason is probably the packaging showed it working with PC [Windows] and Macintosh. Mac OS X and the newer macOS had/has issues with writing NTFS but usually can read it, needs additional support/app to get full performance.

Thank you. Are you recommending that i test with all five programs?
Note. For some reason, the disk hinders my desktop picture from displaying correctly.

No. Just pick one program to test with.

Fakeflash works for a while, then stops responding. It stopped at 30 percent reading blocks.
This is my second time to try it. Yesterday it stopped about 95 percent while reading blocks, before program stopped responding
lHow long should a test take?
I am trying checkflash now. It looks it will be several days if not weeks before completion.

If this is too personal a question, please feel free not to answer, but did you pay less than the equivalent of US $500 for this 2TB flash drive?

The reason I ask is simply that there are a LOT of fake flash drives claiming to be 2TB drives on the market. I have never seen a real 2TB flash drive yet for anything even near US $500. SSD's, yes, you can get a 2TB model for about US $200, but not flash drives.

The bottom line is that the description of the problem you provide sounds like classic fake flash drive behavior. If it was an inexpensive drive claiming to be 2TB capacity then I can almost guarantee with near 100% certainty that you have a fake.

I didn't pay one single penny for it. I had got it from a guy through facebook. He asked me to contribute money to some charity. I didn't do that. instead I told him something personal related to that which satisfied him. He posted it to me.
    he is on ebay.

Yep, as I thought. 100% absolutely, positively, guaranteed, certifiably FAKE.

Sorry to break it to you.
