Hi everyone. Just signed up yesterday and already this site has helped me immensly with my most recent upgrade concerns. I've been a personal computer enthusiast since 1978, owning my first computer, a Tandy 1000 in the early 80's. Building and selling computers for both retail and corporate SMB until about 2007, when online retailers put brick and mortor out of business and my last system build.

Just put together a brand new upgrade system this year and I'm a bit behind in the know how, but have enough knowledge to get myself into serious trouble when I get too careless. Thankfully, it's guys and gals like you with simular know how, experience and love for computing, that can help us get out of some misbehaving system problems.

I look forward to contributing where I can, based on personal use and experience. However, I'm not formally educated in the field.
Welcome to Ten Forums Merrlin. Hopefully we can keep you out of too much trouble.

    Hello All,

New to this forum and I suppose new sort of to Windows 10. I am 73, retired, my wife's full time carer.I was, and still am a member of XP Forums. My interests are more of a technical nature. Anything from rebuilding engines to the general and special theory of relativity. I was always in management and law and specialised in asbestosis and mesothelioma litigation. I took the litigation on board on a humanist model with the plaintiffs to be treated with dignity and respect. The fact that the manufacturer's product caused the grave illness took any fault away from the people suffering.

During my 43 years work I saw the growing impact of "computerisation" in the workplace. From the old punch cards to on-line work models. Way back then I wrote a few applications in DOS to backup the daily input to our COBOL mainframe. A while later I did a few spreadsheet applications to either add to our suite of programs or to splice to COBOL.

Now I am a home body and use my PC mainly for Flight Simming (I did fly VFR when I was young) and of course music. My avatar shows this I suppose.

Anyway, I will probably stay in the background here as I think (until something goes wrong) that I have set up Windows 10 not to be an on line spy for Microsoft. That is the thing that really annoys me about Windows 10, the number of apps that will capture input and send information, my information, to Microsoft and/or others. If only Linux could properly run Windows software I would be using Linux Mint as my OS. The Linux app to run Windows software is not very good at all.

    Anyway, that is me.

    Cheers,

    Aunty Jack.

    My cat.

Welcome Aunty Jack to TenForums. Well, I don't know so I disabled Telemetry to disable Windows 10 spying.
