    black flashing screen

    so a while ago l posted what l thought to be a discord issue, but now l think its a windows issue..

    basically my screen would turn off/flash while playing on a certain game while on discord or only just using discord.. a few days back l decided to check power settings.. and l found one setting that was set to turn off the monitor after 15m..

    heres the strange part, there are three different pages where power settings are "power and sleep", "additional power settings" and a further set of more advanced options the later two are set to never turn the monitor off however the "power and sleep" settings seem to keep reverting to turning my monitor off after 15m while plugged in.. the rest are set to never which is why its strange.. any way to stop this setting reverting?

    Go to;
    Settings>power and sleep>additional power settings>choose when to turn off display>change advanced power settings>power options---scroll down to Display--open it--open---turn off Display after---which should be ---Never---.
    If not,then set it via the instructions at the top of the page.

    Well the thing is I have changed those settings but the setting seems to revert after reboot.

    Like I said there seems to be three different areas that handle that setting and it seems just one of them seems to revert.. though despite this yesterday even after changing that setting prior to starting discord annoyingly I got the black flashing screen.. which is extremely frustrating.

    Black Flashing Screen And Jumping Cursor Solution

    I have been trying to solve this problem for months. Every time I thought I found the solution it came back. Everything pointed to a graphics card problem. I made sure my graphics drivers were updated, re-registered DCOM, and disabled the AMD catalyst on startup because it was using too much CPU but the problem kept coming back. Then I read about a Windows 10 option that allows you to choose between an internal or external monitor. I was not aware of this setting which is the windows key + P. Mine was set to Duplicate Monitor. I changed my setting to PC Screen Only and the problem is finally gone. I hope this helps someone else because this problem made me so angry I didn't think I would ever find out what was causing it.

    took a look at the settings on the laptop and its currently set to PC screen only, not to mention l dont even see a cursor..

    heres a link to a youtube video (ignore the fact its a PS4) but instead focus on what the screen is doing, this is essentially what happens when l encounter my issue and it only happens when using Discord.

    l have noticed another weird issue with my power settings there seems to be three areas l can control said settings, originally l only assumed they were in the power plan customisation area however there seems to be another place called power and sleep specifically the option what the monitor does after x amount of time (option highlighted) whenever rebooting/cold starting this option always reverts to 15m despite my power plan/advanced options stating the monitor shouldnt turn off.

    l can weirdly still hear voices while voice chatting but l end up having to open and close my lid a few times before the display shows again, and if l dont reboot it will happen again.. if l close discord there isnt any issues.. sometimes on occasion the issue wont happen more times than not it will.

    its also worth noting that my laptop has two GPUs, the onboard and a dedicated Nvidia 1050Ti and lve got the dedicated GPU set in my options as the preferred GPU option in the Nvidia control panel (l dont have any options in the bios that allow me to disable my onboard card.
