I have lost the search facility win 10

I have lost the search facility on the bottom left taskbar!
I had this on another computer but never found a cure. Because of this I then used the present PC and all was well. IN the last few days, I have now lost search on this PC.
I have run sfc /scannow + used the trouble-shooter to run the search and indexing repair program.
Trouble shooter says 'search not working' then runs a repair and indicates a repair has been carried out successfully.(Fixed)
However this is not the case - As soon as I go to search, the windows disappears almost immediately.

I cannot show my full details because Winver will not run - however I am using Win 10 Pro (2004) with all the latest updates etc.

Your help welcomed, thanks in advance.

Is this the cortana box? or the Bing search function?
I disabled both upon getting win 10 and use open shell in which search in start (actually I think it's a run field but it does search also.

I cannot show my full details because Winver will not run
    - just to check if that's really a problem, what exactly happens when you follow the forum instruction

Win key + R (should -> Run box)
    type
    winver
    <Enter>
    ?

If that doesn't work, skip to the System Restore suggestion onwards.

I have lost the search facility on the bottom left taskbar!
    What happens if you use
    Win key + S
? Do you see the search box?

Is your taskbar search box hidden?
What happens if you click 'Show search box' - if available?

    - try using a System Restore point if you have one available.

If you use disk imaging as we so, so often recommend, please try restoring a recent disk image.
(Note, likely to affect personal data on the partition restored).

If all else fails, create a new user for test purposes. Log in as that user.
If you see the same problem you can perform an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.

If all you lost is the buttons on the Taskbar might right-click it and look at this list:

    Thanks for your response.

Firstly - if I do Windows + R, I do get to the run box and typing in winver does the trick -no problem.
Secondly - if I do Windows + S, the search box does appear. If left on the screen, it then disappears after 2-3 seconds of it's own accord.
When it does appear - again it vanishes.
Note - the search icon is visible on the taskbar, but as indicated above it just vanishes OR if I am quick and try to type it will not accept any letters.
    Show search icon is ticked.

Windows Search is my right-hand function now because it works so darn well for finding files, apps, settings, etc

I've had to do a in-place-upgrade recently because search stopped working on one PC and could not resolve it after spending much time trying various things.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade (select the option to keep apps and files - but make a full backup first just in case)

Ok, now you can use winver, what is your Windows build?

    I suggested using System Restore...?

Considering an in-place upgrade repair install, as I said, this is only applicable if you also see this problem after creating and logging in as a new user. If you wish to do that, you need an iso file matching your Windows build (see winver).
See the tutorial on downloading an iso file to get one for an older build.

Note: you can normally see your Windows build by examining properties of typical system files e.g. explorer.exe. However this is now complicated by the 'mini' feature updates as 1909 was and 20H2 will be, as not all system files are replaced in these- if any.

(It used to be the case that re-registering Cortana could help in this, but MS separated Cortana and search)

    One of these might help
Fix: Windows 10 Search Bar Missing from Taskbar - Appuals.com
but think carefully, back up appropriately and use with due caution.

The problem with posted fixes for this is that MS has made repeated changes in this area.

I can now confirm build as follows .....Version 2004 (os build 19041 - 508)

I feel the need to clarify a little deeper - when I say 'disappears' some are (I think) interpreting this to mean either the search icon is not to be seen on the taskbar, or the search box window does not appear when icon is actuated.
1 - the search icon is present
2 - when icon is clicked upon, the search box does appear BUT the box itself then vanishes after 2 to 3 seconds.
3 - if I immediately try to type in the box (when it appears), again it vanishes after 2 to 3 seconds.

I am now considering the possible resort to a third party search facility (a very simple one akin to the microsoft one) I have looked at 'Everything' but this is a complete overkill for my needs.
Incidentally, I did do a system restore going back some 5/6 days - but no prizes there. I then used a macrium backup to get back to the present day after.
Thanks for your responses so far

As above: please proceed with new user (see above) then if appropriate an in-place upgrade repair install; you can use the MS media creation tool to create an iso file.

    Well - success then Failure!
    Followed by Failure.
With two desktop PC's with the same problem, I decided to try the two ways suggested.

On the first PC, I did an install repair. This immediately corrected the problem and I was able to use the search facility.
After approx a half hour, it had failed and once again was inoperative!

Second PC - added a new user - but this did not make any difference.
Keep in mind that all my PC's and laptops have the same software - have operated without problem for months.
No programs have been added or taken away - the only changes have been MS updates.
