    Ron,

Please describe how you are trying to shut down & what the computer's response is.

Open a new Notepad and name it Shutdown. Copy and Past this into it; shutdown /s /f /t 0 Save it as a .bat file to your desktop. double click it to run it. Does the computer shutdown?

It turns off the screen but key board light is still on .. i can hear the fan still running ..
I can't turn it back on until I hold down the OFF button to Hard shut down ..
then I can turn it back on ...

Anyway .. it's ok now with the "Shut-down .bat file" that lance showed me ..

    Thanks

What about when you tell it to sleep or hibernate?

If sleep or hibernate also fails, I would suspect display driver corruption.

Using your Dell service tag, go to Dell drivers & downloads and get the latest display driver [even if it is the same version as your installed one] and install it again.
    - While you are there you could usefully check for any updated Bios as well.
    - Using Device mgr to check for updates is not sufficient [it does not detect driver corruption, it merely compares version numbers & dates].

Until you find a solution to the shutdown problem. It just a fast shutdown method that a lot of people use.

I would also try disabling fast startup.
