Thumbnails of an edited picture don't get updated after saving

W10 , Home single language, Version 1909, OS build 18363.1082.
    ====================================================

This topic has been tackled some years ago , but did not have an answer , It suddenly happened to me between Windows updates. In any folder I'd have pictures that I do edit then save back (over the early one), normally the new thumb picture change and reflects the new image that got updated. Not anymore, the picture remain with old thumbnail, but when I display it shows the intended edited picture. Here is a beauty, if I folder to a different disk, the proper thumbnail emerges .
I went through several suggestions none of which offered any solution.

So how can I get to see a recent edited picture once saved? like I used to weeks ago?

Have you tried clearing and rebuilding the thumbnail cache?

Clear and Reset Thumbnail Cache in Windows 10

In my case, I decided long ago to make my own folders for pictures, videos, music, etc.
For pictures in particular, I've found that the free program XnView (minimal) was the answer to keeping better track of my pictures, images, etc.

XnView . The Best Windows Photo Viewer, Image Resizer and Batch Converter

Among other things, XnView allows you to edit pics, batch rename pics, rebuild thumbnails etc., it even allows for slide shows.
I've been using XnView for at least 10 years, maybe more.

I followed the procedure clearing up the thumbnails cash, went as far as to apply a four step windows PowerShell commands suggested by a MS "expert" from India..to no avail.
I have no problem with any foto editor, this is not related to any application it's a lot to do with WINDOWS10 inner mechanism for folders set up, or precisely to do with MS updates, some mentioned the problem was fixed way back in 2006, now my system caught up with the problem MS fixed 14 years ago , with a looming hardship search to find the cure, again!

Yeah, I got tired of Windows messing up my "folders", that's why I just made my own, and started using XnView.

It allows you to set the thumbnail size, as well, from 32 to 768 pixels. XnView does a LOT of other things, but I only use it for the things I've mentioned.

Almost forgot, it plays .gif as well.

I have my thumbnail size set to 92 x 69. Here's what one of my folders looks like...

    /edit

You'll see the Libraries in the lower left corner. The reason I mentioned this program, is that under the View Tab, (up top) there is a "Rebuild Thumbnails".
So even if you stick with the Windows libraries, you can still rebuild the thumbnails, w/e you want.

I think you'll be happy with your choice. The "Options" sheet is under the Tools heading, and there are some check-able items at the bottom of the View tab.
