How Do I Add Recent FILES (not items or folders) to Left Content Panel

How do I add my "recent files" to the left content panel in Win10 (19041.508 build)? I recently purchased a new laptop, and it only seems to show recent folders. On my other laptop, I could see a list of folders and files on the left content panel in windows explorer. It was a very convenient feature that I used quite a lot.

How do I get it back? So far, I have only been able to enable it via Quick Access, but I actually want to see the list of recent files under my recent folders like I did before on the left-hand side.

Hi, you may be able to add recent folders:

    Winaero suggests this:
Add Recent items to left pane of File Explorer in Windows 10

    (from Winaero)

Note: Recent files are stored here:
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

I note that having had recent files disabled, if I enable that, and access two files, those are shown in Quick Access. But the content of the above is a much much longer list.

For more universal access in open/save dialogues and file explorer, consider using Listary (free). Amongst its numerous functions, e.g. middle click empty space offers this dialogue:

Hovering over Recent produces a vertical list in three sections, folders, files and one other. Simply click on the one you want.

Another option for file explorer is to add the very interesting Qttabbar (free) which adds tabs to explorer and much more e.g.

You need to enable the option:

@strollin- believe the poster is asking for this to appear in the Navigation (left) pane.

recent FILES not FOLDERS or ITEMS

@dalchina is correct. I've already seen those tutorials for "recent items." As I stated, I want to add "recent FILES" to the left content/navigation pane in windows explorer (not recent ITEMS or FOLDERS). This was possible on my other laptop that ran win10, but for some reason the feature isn't automatic on my latest laptop. Currently, only my recent FOLDERS are showing and nothing else (even though I have both enabled in Quick Access).

You can pin Recent Items to Quick Access
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

Clicking on this Recent Items then shows recent files & folders in explorer's right pane.

I'm confused. Quick Access is in the Left pane!

Yes, but the FILES are no longer appearing in the jump list on the left pane like before. I enabled both recent FOLDERS and FILES but only the folders are showing. That is my problem. The only way I seem to be able to show my recent FILES now is via quick access and then it shows both the location items for recent folders and files.

What I am asking is for a way to get the list of my recent FILES to appear in the left pane as my last 4 recent folders and pinned folders do. I had this ability before in win10 automatically on my last laptop. So, I don't understand why I can't do it now. Yes, I can click the "Quick Access" link and see them there, but I never had to do that before. Previously, they were actually listed in the left pane under my recent folders. That's what I want.

Never seen that myself. I wish you good luck.

Try this: you know the folder containing recent items.

Add custom folders or Control Panel applets to Navigation Pane in File Explorer
