Windows Explorer can not find files

    OS Build 19041.508

So I open Windows Explorer in my "home" folder. In the left column (Navigation Pane) it shows the "Quick Access" points with thumbtacks. I select Documents and then enter the partial file name I want to search for. I get "No items match your search".

If I clear the search criteria and scroll down, I can SEE SEVERAL FILES that would match the search, but some how these have been filtered out ! What am I doing wrong ?

Please post a screenshot to illustrate this, showing the file names and your search string thus

Thanks. Again, could you also give some examples of the file names that you hope to match?

Is your search problem only as this example, or are you unable to find anything at all in any folder?

Please also advise if you have relocated Documents

The partial file name is in the first attachment. I does not appear that I can find any file by name. The files clearly exist

I recently had the same problem.
1 When it happens, I go to Task mgr, Services then stop & restart Windows search ["WSearch"]. Doing this only takes a moment.
2 I used to do this but it takes far longer - Go to [Start menu, Windows system,] Control panel, Indexing options, Advanced, Delete & rebuild index.

    And see:
Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10

Option 3 allows you to reset indexed locations to default as well if you feel that's necessary.

Depends if you have changed them.

You may also like to be aware of this option:

Well, this (SearchFilterHost.exe) has been running for over 30 minutes and seems to be "stuck" ! (Quad core, dual thread Ryzen 3500U, 16GB memory and Samsung 970 Pro M.2 NVME SSD)

Whoa ! SearchFilterHost.exe appears to be "crashing" and restarting (new PID) !!

In normal operation you would see this start from 0 and increase a bit jerkily until complete, assuming you're not starting and running programs (i.e. the PC is nominally idle).

If you are experiencing crashes, I suggest you start with basic checks:
    a. Check your disk (s) - best instant and most informative- Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - SSDs too
Simple SMART params: Crystal Diskinfo (free).
    b. If ok, run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and advise the summary results.
