How do I remove files with similar names from a folder?

    Hi,

I have a folder with 1000+ files containing images. They have similar names like:

    imgred_4752
    imgred_4785
    imgred_4473
    imgyellow_571
    imgyellow_582
    imgyellow_565

I would need one file per type, so, for example, it should be:

    imgred_4752
    imgyellow_582

Can I do it with a software that automate the process?

    Thank you!

You can use other software like XnView to batch rename those files... THEN you might be able to use Search with parameters, to do something like that.

Me, I just highlight one of the files I want removed, the hold the Ctrl key down to add to the highlight, for all the other files (one at a time though).

Hi, simply use file explorer search.

    E.g. type
    *yellow
in file explorer's search box and all files containing yellow will be listed. Select all but one. Delete those, and you have 1 remaining.

    Example:
How do I remove files with similar names from a folder?-1.pngHow do I remove files with similar names from a folder?-2.png

Or just pick one of the selected list and copy it to a new folder.
    Repeat selection process.
    Finally delete source folder.

    Highlight ONE of each type.

Then choose "invert selection" from File Explorer.

    Then delete those inverted selections.
