Now out of habit if my computer doesn't go to sleep I check WU. Sometimes WU has installed an update and is waiting for me to restart the computer. After Windows restarts and completes the install, sleep is normal again.

There was a couple time a few months ago that a WU install failed. I had to stop and restart the Windows update service. After that the problem update install was able to complete successfully.

Even though I have found workarounds for this doing it should have been unnecessary. The average user would expect this to all be automatic. He might be not even be aware of any problem or if he was not know what to do about it.
When I tried starting and stopping WU the results were horrific. WU started having issues and would not install last months update. I did an in place upgrade and WU seemed to be working fine, until now...

I want it to be automatic and all I do is open WU settings to see the status of the month's updates and thats where I find the errors, etc.

So I just got an opportunity to sign on to my clients machine.

Indeed after running powercfg /requests MoUsoCoreWorker is listed. As I mentioned in previous post, preview .net kb failed last Wednesday.

Issued stop to wuauserv. Said it couldn't stop. Ran powercfg again, MoUsoCoreWorker gone.

Checked for updates, found the preview .net, installed successfully.

    Nonsense of the highest order.

After I had a failed update that prevented sleep I was also seeing MoUsoCoreWorker when I ran powercfg. Retarting the Windows Update service was the only thing I found that fixed things.

Thank you Paul. With lockdown not sure when I will be able on clients machine. I will run on one of my devices to see capabilities.
Have you managed to run my script that I provided yet, and if so, was it of any help?

I haven't but yes it would have shown the MoUsoCoreWorker running, which is what is identified in this thread.

Runs all the test in one nice package. Next power issue I'm going to officially try and report back.

Once Windows Update service was killed the above stopped running.
