Select a certificate for authentication pop up

Hello everyone, I'm new here, I am looking for a solution for the attached pop up:

Select a certificate for authentication pop up-certificate1.jpg

I keep cancelling and it keeps coming back every few hours and even appears to block internet access. In case the attachment is not visible it says:

    Windows Security
    Select a certificate for authentication
    Server: go.trouter.skype
    APNS certificate Direct
    Issuer: Apple iPhone Device CA
    Valid From: 29/08/2020 to 29/082021

    Running W10 version 2004 (OS Build 19041.450)

The only recent change was installing iTunes and using the iTunes library from my previous PC, but I have no idea, I cant find this certificate to delete so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks, Sam

Yes I did try this search, strangely most of the entries were from mac users. Anyway I think I have now resolved, I may be mistaken but from memory I was looking for the certificate using the mmc command, but could not find it, however I have just tried running cert.msc, I'm not a expert in windows and they look nearly the same, anyway this time using cert.msc I found the annoying certificate and DELETED, so far so good, just wonder how it got there... Anyway thanks again for your help!!! I'll wait a bit before closing this post just to be sure

OK I still have the problem, I've tried deleting the certificate but it comes back, I've also tried to leave but select disable, despite this I still get the pop up window shown above, I'm no IT expert, have no idea about certificates where they come from etc. I use firefox, perhaps I'll try reinstalling any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Do you have an iPhone? If so, then that's whats created it. You can Renew the certificate once you plug your iPhone into your computer and follow these instructions Service and Support.

Hi thanks, no I dont have an iphone, although I do have an ipod if thats works. Tried removing firefox and skype, along with clearing edge / chrome cache, but this did not help. I tried unistalling Itunes app from the MS store, and voila the problem disappeared. today reinstalled ms store itunes app and the certificate immediately reappeared, very strange coming from an MS approved app. So I uninstalled again. Maybe I'll try installing the old apple windows version, any other suggestions are welcome, thanks again for your help

Hi Sam, welcome to Ten Forums.

Have a look in the Task Scheduler and I believe you'll find a task that produces this window.

From the search on the taskbar, type task scheduler and then enter.

Select a certificate for authentication pop up-0908-search-task-scheduler.jpg

Click on Task Schedule Library to display a summary of scheduled tasks.

Select a certificate for authentication pop up-0908-scheduled-tasks-summary.jpg

Search the scheduled tasks for an item related to the pop-up window that annoys. Double click the task, select the triggers tab, double-click the trigger event then remove the check for enabled. This will disable the trigger for that scheduled task. Be aware, there may be multiple triggers in which case each trigger will require to be disabled.

Some individuals might suggest just completely deleting the triggers, I prefer to disable them so that I have a record of the original intended settings. With other events containing multiple triggers, I may just outright delete some of them.

Keep in mind that any Windows Updates or installation of apps may change these settings requiring you to tweak them to your liking again.

Please let us know if you require any more info and if this resolves that pop-up window.

Just dropped by to close the thread and thank everyone for their kind input, unable to reolve the issue along with a number of software graphics issues I was facing, I decided to reset my PC. So the resetting got the graphics up and running. Concerning the certificate it came back after installing itunes, so it appears to be a valid certificate. I also noted that the problem may stem from the Kaspersky internet security software, sending a message about the certificate followed by the same windows pop up, however I had an option with Kaspersky to ignore, which I did and probably didnt do the first time and it hasnt come back. So was thinking it may be something to do with the Kaspersky settings. But anyway, happy now my PC is now usable... Thanks

It is from Kaspersky, at least on my end. It has their logo on the taskbar. My problem is that I don't know why it pops up, and what its purpose is. Above is a possible way to suppress it, but I don't want to just suppress it, I want to know what it is for and why. If it is suppressed it is still there, I just won't see it.

It looks like something that would go away if I approve it, but I don't want to do that since I don't know what it is. If it's not a good idea, whatever is causing it should be found and eliminated, or a sign that something is wrong?

I sent a message to Kaspersky and am currently waiting for a reply.

Did you try clearing your browser history and cache?
