Laptop shut off and won't restart

I have a 16-month old Lenovo Legion Y7000P-1060 that has been running great until a few minutes ago. I was watching a YouTube video when i heard a pop and it shut off and won't restart. I bought if from Costco so it is still under their Concierge warranty but before I go through that process is there anything I should do? I assume that this is likely some kind of hardware failure.

If it is still under warranty, it would be best if you did not try to repair any hardware part of it. You may void your warranty. Take it to Costco, explain just like you did here, and let them fix/replace.

Please call Costco concierge and they will walk you through any possible troubleshooting.

A 'pop' is usually a component blowing, most likely a capacitor. This is definitely something that you should go through the warranty for...

The pop may have been the audio as the laptop reset. it was so surprising that I couldn't tell you exacty what it was. There's no electric smell like you' expect if something had literally blown.

I called Costco Concierge and they had me do some basic troubleshooting - hold the power button down for a full minute. i'd tried that several times before I called them but after I called them...naturally the laptop restarted, and it seems to be functioning normally. I've watched a couple other youtube videos and played a could minutes of a very modest game just to see if putting a modest load on it caused a problem. So where I left it with them is that I'm going to call them back if it happens again. Which of course leaves the question of why it happened in the first place. Would windows have any kind of log or anything I could look at to see if there are any clues?

    *phew* what a relief....

The Event Log would be worth checking, as would the Reliability History. Though if it was just a sudden loss of power it's likely just to say 'the last shutdown was unexpected'.

I will. My wife just got home from her shift at the hospital so it won’t be tonight. Thanks all for your help so far.

Lenovo Thinkpad series is experiencing problems with latest update. May want to contact Lenovo to see if Legion series may also be affected.

Lenovo says the following problems could be experienced when upgrading to Windows 10 version 2004:

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when booting

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when starting Lenovo Vantage

Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when running Windows Defender Scan

Can't login by Face with Windows Hello

Errors in Device Manager related to Intel Management Engine

Errors in Device Manager related to IR Camera

Lenovo explains that only ThinkPad models launched in 2019 or 2020 are affected by these problems, and the only solution is to disable the Enhanced Windows Biometric Security setting from the Virtualization section in the Security menu of the BIOS.

I ran them - it says all modules passed (except wired internet, as this laptop connects wirelessly).
