Why are videos now opening with a single mouse click?

For some reason, my videos are now opening (in File Explorer) with a single click rather than a double click. I have checked View-->Options in File Explorer, and double click is selected for opening an item, but the problem still persists. It is a relatively recent development. Has anyone else had this problem?

Further to my original post, I've discovered that it's not only videos, but also certain images and documents that now open upon single click, and NOT ALL videos actually open with a single click. But there seems to be no logical pattern here, as the videos are a mixture of AVI, mp4 and matroska.

Do all of these videos and images that are affected open with the same app? If so, what app?

    1. Press the Windows key, type mouse settings, and press Enter.
    2. In the Settings window, under Related settings, click the Additional mouse options link.
    3. In the Mouse Properties window, click the Buttons tab, if not already selected.
    4. On the Buttons tab, adjust the slider for the Double-click speed option, then press OK.

    1. Test out the double-click speed adjustment to see if that helps resolve the double-clicking issue. Repeat the steps above, if needed, to adjust the setting again.

There's also a setting to INTENTIONALLY have items in Explorer open with one click. I gave it a try for kicks and never went back. It requires you to re-learn how you open much of anything, but once you've got it -- it makes things much faster.

No reason to double click, set it to 1 click.

How do you select an item without opening it then?

Also, make sure you are not running in Tablet Mode.

If you want to drag into another folder, or move, click (don't let go) and move it.

If you want to select two items on a desktop, drag a square around the two items.

If you want to select 5 random items on your desktop, hold down CTL and click them in succession.

If you want to do an entire host of things with an item, right click it.

(Did that cover all of them?)

Adjusting the mouse settings does not work for me. Often, I just want to see a preview of a file in File Explorer, but now I find that many files are actually opening on single click. Basically, I just want to be able to use double click to open files, single click to select.

Try a different mouse; the unwanted double-clicking could be hardware related.
