Windows 10 - difficulty with pin code & windows explorer

    Hi,

I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 but have two issues which I need help resolving.

    1. I cannot seem to change from MS account email login to PIN login. I go to Start>Settings>Accounts>Sign In Options but nothing happens. Sign In Options does not open. Any ideas.

    2. In Windows Explorer I cannot seem to change file names or move or sometimes even delete files without constant messages saying 'Folder Access Denied' or 'You'll need to provide administrator permission to rename this folder' or 'Invalid MS-DOS Function'. It is all rather annoying and whereas I used to have no problems now I cannot rename folders, delete unwanted files, etc. I am the administrator so why can't I do what I want?

If anyone can throw any light on these issues it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks, Charles.

The first thing I would try is making another administrator account. It does not have to be an MS account.

It might be your original MS account was corrupted during the upgrade.

    Sounds like deeply rooted errors.

Perhaps a fresh install would be the most reasonable solution.

It would be rather shocking if it was, and if I must purchase and resort to a clean install - what on earth is the point of this 'free' upgrade if it has not been adequately tested by the rank and file? At the risk of sounding defeatist after all these years supporting Microsoft I think this would be the end! All I have done is complete a seemingly faultless Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 but have now found all these permissions issues whenever I try and work. Something went wrong, clearly, but why? I simply don't have the time for all this hassle; it is a nightmare at the moment trying to work. I have spent hours searching for an answer and although there are many users with the same problem nobody appears to know the answer. What a nightmare.

Can somebody please tell me how to re-set file permissions?

For those that have problems with my two issues:

    1. You cannot currently use a PIN to open the Windows 10 edition you receive from Windows 7 Home Premium.

    2. If your Windows 7 opened directly to your desktop (i.e., you are the only account holder on the PC) and you now open Windows 10 with your MS email address and password you may have problems accessing your personal folders and files through Internet Explorer and elsewhere until you re-set your permissions for the 'new' account. As a working solution I entered each root folder (e.g., Documents, Music) and changed the Share and Advanced Share settings to include Everyone for Read/Write, rebooted, and now all is good. I realise this is only a working solution and not secure for all users but at least it stops the annoying interference until you can get your head around Folder & File Permissions.

You do not have to purchase Windows 10 for a clean install.

    Good luck.
