    Wrong Date in Windows Library

    Hello all,

I have created a windows library for my photos, in which I gather 2-3 folders of all my photos to keep them together and easily reviewed.
After I imported some photos to a OneDrive folder, due to cloud switch (from Dropbox to OneDrive), I found out that many photos where shown at completely wrong dates in the "arrange by month" / "arrange by day" view. I checked immediately my photos' metadata to figure if they had lost their original "date modified" attribute, but they all were ok. So, I figured that even if my files had correct "date modified" in the library the reported "date modified" value for many, not all (about 1/4 of all), my photos and videos that are located into OneDrive was different, hence wrong.
This was my first instance of this problem, I had never encountered it before using other cloud (Dropbox). All photos/videos of the specific OneDrive folder are available offline.
As a first measure of solving this I did rebuild Windows Index, with no improvement.

My Windows 10 version number is 2004 (OS Build 19041.450)

For anyone wondering what does this "Αύγουστος" / "Αυγούστου" mean, it is August in Greek. I have always my Windows display language in English. I really don't know why the dates keep being written in Greek...

Hi, the dates you mention are file system-related, not the date the photo was taken.

Could you clarify which date you are interested in? Note Date Taken:

    - I just downloaded the photo, so the other dates are today's.

Yes, both the referred dates are file system-related.
I have the "date modified" value to always be equal with the "date taken" value (automatically by the Dropbox/OneDrive camera uploads and manually at other photos), so it is the same to me.
I prefer the file system-related "date modified" to be the criterion, as it can sort both photos and videos.

Do you mean you modify that yourself? As you can see from my example they are not necessarily the same.

For the automatically uploaded by the cloud services photos, they are the same by default. Except if, of course, you make any edit (like rotation or photoshop). For any other photo or edited photos, I have manually changed the "date modified" to be equal with the "date taken". There are some good software for this. I can recommend "Attribute Changer" and "Advanced Renamer". ]

Thanks for confirming that. As I don't use Onedrive I can't try to reproduce that. What is clear from the various recent threads on Onedrive is that it is quirky, can be problematic and behave oddly.

As Windows can modify 'date modified', safer not to use that as your criterion.

"arrange by date" in libraries actually means arrange by "date modified"... So, I can't do otherwise.

Clicking on 'date taken' column header or thus

would do that - or do you need something else?

Or rt click empty space, group by date taken...

Hi, not exactly sure what you're looking for but FYI, if you right click in a column you can chose to have your photos arranged by Date taken in Explorer....

    Good luck.

This is not available in the Arrange by menu of Windows Libraries. It is of no use for me to arrange a month's photos by taken, when in that month there are photos of 1-2-3 years earlier!
