    Computer locks up randomly

I have a home built computer. MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI motherboard, 3600x processor, 32 GB corsair vengeance DDR4 3200, EVGA 1070 graphics card. Win 10 64 bit version 2004.

I get random computer lock ups while watching youtube. It seems to happen only while watching youtube. I can watch movies with no issues. I have changed the memory with no change to the issue. I have updated all drivers, error checked my main drive, ran SFC scan now with no luck. I changed from Firefox to Brave with the lock up still happening. When the lock ups occur, the system is completely unresponsive, all sound and video stops and ctrl-alt-delete does not work. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

It seems to be a freeze. Surely you need to restart the system by shutting it down?

    To try:
Install whocrashed: Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer

Launch the chrome browser or install it if it is not installed and launch it, open a few tabs including a video on youtube until your system is blocked. When your system is frozen, restart it by shutting it down. Once on the desktop, start in safe mode with networking: Boot into Safe Mode on Windows 10

In safe mode launch chrome, it should ask you to restore the previous session (the one that got stuck in normal mode) click yes. You should have a bsod instead of a freeze, and whocrashed should have registered the offending driver.
Restart in normal mode and open whocrashed to see the offending driver, copy it here.

You may need to do a google search for the name of the driver.

You're using DDR4 3200 RAM. Do you have D.O.C.P. (the AMD version of XMP) enabled in the motherboard's BIOS? As a test, you could try going to the default frequency.

I have an Asus X570 board. A recent BIOS (which included "Update AM4 combo V2 PI 1.0.0.2") gave trouble when D.O.C.P. was enabled. I got random restarts, not hard lockups. A newer BIOS fixed that. (Or reversion to an older one.)

I disabled XMP and set the RAM to 3200. Installed who crash but it doesn't find anything after the restart. My computer has now locked up while surfing the net and watching a video with VLC. I am out of ideas for troubleshooting.

Hope you followed my procedure from my previous post to get a bsod (a blue screen). But in fact it is to have a bsod of the ethernet or wifi driver.

    What you can do:

-Test youtube videos in safe mode with networkink. If it doesn't freeze then it's a software freeze.

-There is a bios for your motherboard as of 08/10/2020. If it hasn't already, update it with this msi procedure: MSI(R) HOW-TO use M-FLASH for single BIOS - YouTube

-If you use the ethernet connection when you have freeze then unplug the cable from the computer and to test use only wifi. If you use wifi then test with ethernet (you can buy a long cable up to 100 meters).
If you can't choose wifi or ethernet, then go to the intel site for wifi, realtek for ethernet, and download the latest drivers for Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 wifi, for ethernet Realtek 8111H Gigabit LAN Controller.

-Youtube or vlc videos should use graphics acceleration, so either graphics card or onboard graphics. If you use the graphics card when it freezes then test with onboard graphics, if you use onboard graphics then use the graphics card to test.

I have an intel gpu and an nvidia card with optimus technology, when the applications require a lot of graphics resources, the nvidia graphics card is used and when there are fewer resources, the intel gpu which is used. I can also in the nvidia panel choose which gpu to use. I don't know how it's going for you. If you don't have optimus, to test, connect the hdmi cable to either the onboard graphics or the graphics card. Open the task manager on the performance tab, there is, with their name, gpu 0 and gpu 1, see which gpu is used when you watch a youtube video.

-A clean boot: Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

    Come back to give news.

In addition, check the extra power cables to the GPU are securely fastened to ensure the GPU receives sufficient current under load.

Yes, I did try your method but the computer would not blue screen. I ended up doing a clean install of windows, reinstalled all drivers and programs. The computer has been running for three days now with no lock ups.

Thank you for the message. The clean install is also to be tried in the face of a freeze. I hope it doesn't freeze anymore.
Come back to give some news and if there is no more problem, mark the thread as solved.
