    The future of windows

As you all know almost every computer you buy these days will be Windows 10 as the os unless you have like a chromebook or a apple computer. So what do you think the future of Windows will be. Will it stay as windows ten forever or will there be like a Windows 11 or 12 down the line. I thought I read somewhere something about microsoft and windows X being developed at somepoint. So ok enough of my banturing now its your turn.

Well, what's Windows 10? Problem is the spec. keeps changing. Not even Cortana is what it was... with MS it's swings and roundabouts. They've changed their 6 monthly upgrade pattern, added more update controls ('cos their repeated failures were embarrassing I suppose), are making changes to the Start Menu and icon designs.. possibly removing live tiles..

Then as you say there's Win 10X.. for foldable laptops? (!) Well, dual screens..

Microsoft is also improving Windows Update in a way that makes it much faster on Windows 10X. Feature updates will not take as long to install as they do on Windows 10 as those feature updates are now installed in the background without requiring a reboot until the update is done. So, just like on Android and Chrome OS, when the update is ready to restart your PC, it'll just restart like normal, and won't take 15 minutes to finish installing before you're back up and running.

This should result in updates that take less than 90 seconds to reboot. Internal testing suggests it's even faster than that. This is a huge improvement over how Windows 10 does updates today, which can take anywhere between 5 minutes and 20 minutes to reboot, depending on the device.
We cannot wait for everyone to experience how we continue to evolve Windows 10 for desktop PCs and now with Windows 10X for dual screens.

Windows is still evolving and will continue to do so. This will put many off but Microsoft isn't going backwards and Windows will continue to evolve into a live OS fully integrated into the web and cloud computing.

Many will decry they don't trust cloud computing, but be reminded many said the same about e-commerce and online banking; yet today all but a small small minority (with the capability to do so) e-commerce or bank.

But yeah, "Windows" isn't going anywhere. The name may change but the origins will remain Windows.

Also, there will never be a Windows 11 or Windows 20 etc. Windows 10 it is.

I think there will be a Windows 11. Or maybe some other name. It's about marketing.

Windows 10 dates to around 2015. It's already a tired, old name. They'll surely come up with a new name in order to generate interest.

But I want a more substantive change: Dump the Windows kernel and replace it with Linux.
Keep the UI, though. That's the good part.
But the kernel needs a complete overhaul.

I think they should brand it, like they're branding everything else, and call it M S O S!

Best outcome would be to run Windows 10 inside a Linux core
