Windows will not boot after using Driver Update Software

    Good evening everyone,

I decided to check my drivers today to see if needed any updates using BitDriver software. I updated and restarted like it instructed and at the MSI motherboard logo, it stated that it was finishing the update, then it restarted. Once it restarted no logo appear and no signal is being sent to my monitor.

I have tried to boot into safe mode, use a rebootable hard drive, however it does not seem to be recognizing any commands. I also remove the cmos battery for five minutes timed and still no luck.

    Thanks in advance.

Update. I am still continuing to try and work on this.

What I notice: my motherboard normally shows the temperature of my cpu in the digital display towards the left. However, it only shows 00 now. Hopefully this helps clue into the problem

Hello @PotentElixir , welcome to Ten Forums

    Is that a Gaming M7 with a Z170A or a Z270 chipset?

If you can access the bios, then use the Load optimised default option and also check your Boot Menu to make sure USB booting is an option available and the first selection.

Do you have System Restore turned on? Is so, create a Windows 10 USB flash drive and use it to restore your computer to an earlier time.

    Hello Ghot,

That would be a Z170A that I have.

    Hello JoeandMarg,

I can't seem to make it boot into bias, or any other mode. No display appears. Everything is running, the fans, the cooler, but no image and no mouse arrow.

    ----

    Hello Trust ME,

I created a Windows 10 flash drive and held down the appropriate keys, however nothing happens and no responses. I know it sends power to the monitor because it lights up, but then goes back to sleep after nothing happens for a while.

I know it doesn't make any sense, but try re-seating the RAM. Take all the RAM out and only put one stick back in. Put it in the 2nd slot (counting left to right) away from the CPU.
[From the troubleshooting section of your manual]

Obviously, you'll need to turn the computer OFF before you do this.
See if that gets your display back.

/e Those LEDs in the lower left, ONLY show the CPU temp, after the computer successfully boots... otherwise they show Debug Codes. Unfortunately 00 isn't on the list.

Just thought of something else. Do you have a 2nd display, like maybe a TV hooked up to your video card?
IF you do, make sure to turn it ON.
Sometimes, the video card driver can get confused and send the image to the TV, that might be OFF, so you won't see it.

Only worry about this IF you do have a 2nd display hooked to your video card, that is turned OFF.

Short version. If you have TWO displays, of any kind, make sure they are both turned ON. Your "screen" might be coming up on the wrong display.

    Hello Ghot,

I tried reseating the ram, no luck.
I also attempted to reseat the cpu, no luck.

I wonder if one of the drivers I downloaded could have messed up the motherboard or the cpu? I know one of them on the list was like am Intel Xeon driver, which I thought was weird. Thank you for your help, some really good suggestions.

Let's try and clear the CMOS again.

    Do it like this...

    1. Turn the computer OFF.
    2. Turn the switch on the back of the power supply OFF. (leave power supply plugged in)
    3. Press and hold the power button on the case for 15 seconds.
    4. NOW take out the CMOS battery and leave it out for 5 minutes.
    5. Put the battery back in, turn the power supply switch, back ON, and then try to... at least get into the BIOS.

IF that still doesn't work... try hooking your monitor to the motherboard HDMI or Display Port connectors.

And like I said in an edit above... if you have two displays of any kind hooked to the computer, make sure they are BOTH turned on.

/edit I hope that when you "attempted to reseat the CPU", you used new thermal paste. When you remove a CPU cooler, you have to clean the old thermal paste off, and apply new thermal paste.

Thank you, I will give this a shot when I'm off work tomorrow and let you know the results. Actually I'll do it now, take out the battery and just let it sit all night.

You don't have to let it sit all night.

You DO have to discharge things like capacitors that hold a charge, before you take the battery out for 5 minutes.
That's what steps 1, 2, and 3 are for... above.

But I realize it's getting late.
