Where is the tag database located?

    Hello!

I usually tag (and re-tag) my photos to try and get them in some semblance of order.

Tagging in the File Explorer Details Panel is real easy. I type and autocomplete suggests something I've used before. Simple, right?

But what if I don't use that tag anymore? I don't want to have suggestions of obsolete tags.

How do I access and edit wherever Windows 10 keeps these? Some of these I just want to edit, some of these, I want gone.

    Thanks.

Thanks dude, but I've seen those. I'm looking for a reg hack or a third party program that will clear up the Windows database.

I'm pretty sure that there is no database - I think that the metadata is held with the individual file. But your point about a third party app is understood.

EDIT: Looks like different types of files use different methods to store metadata. For example, office files use XML files.

Searching the web, there are a lot of utilities for removing metadata. Some will remove office metadata, others are specific to photos, etc. Have not yet found one that "does it all".

From my brief tests just now on JPG images, Windows 10 adds comments (and who know how many other fields) to the EXIF data in the file itself (thus updating its 'modified' date) like so:
    Comments appear under XPComments
    Tags under XPKeywords
Author under XPAuthor (and presumably etc etc).

But I don't see any autocomplet 'hints' so can't help there (it may well be a W10 feature I have turned off)

From what I've seen, the tags are stored with the individual files as metadata. The suggestions as you type come from an "om-the-fly" compilation. So find the files with tags you want to edit/delete. Edit/delete the tags & they will no longer be suggested.

That would have been my first thought. However, as in the photos, none of the indicated "autocompleted" tag suggestions exist in any of my files.

(I regularly use Photo Gallery to clean up unused tags, but everything I've ever used, even the typos are still being suggested in File Explorer.)

But they still get suggested every time I make a partial type.

    Hi!

I'm not looking to erase metadata from any of my files.

I am looking to clean up the "autocomplete" suggestions being given by File Explorer when I type in the "Details Panel".

The tags do not exist in any of my files anymore.

    For example:

"Angel Dust [band]" is still being suggested even though I universally changed it to "Angel Dust" using Photo Gallery.

Hmm, interesting how almost everyone's playing guessing games on this: example..

Hmm... well, in the past, I had tested and verified the behavior I described. Currently, I'm not being offered any auto-complete suggestions, so there's nothing I can test.

Yours is the best explanation I've seen... and as you tested that..

Like you, I don't see that drop-down list of suggestions for photo tags in the Details pane on 1 PC - I've just tagged a few for test purposes...

I can't recall anything I might have done to disable it nor can I find an option related to its beahviour.

But.. on my other PC - also 1903- I do get a lot of rubbish and unknown suggestions. And I've never done nay significant tagging.
