    Guidance regarding resetting BIOS/UEFI settings

Supermicro MB (C7Q67), 8GB Ram, I7 2600 CPU, 1 SSD, 2 2TB HDDs, Windows 2004. I'm looking for recommendations on what to do about the BIOS settings regarding the boot option entries listed in my 3 boot options lists under the Boot tab. All three boot options contain a list of three boot entries named 'Windows Boot Manager' plus other hardware device entries. The Bios setup support is provided by the APTIO setup s/w provided by AMI. What confuses me is why are there three 'Windows Boot Manager' entries in the 'Boot Option' lists. One of the 'Windows Boot Manager' entries does get the PC booted into Windows 2004, however, the other two entries don't. What I'm looking for is a way of 'cleaning' this mess up, but I have yet to find that way. I'm at the point where I want to clear/reset the BIOS/UEFI and hope for the best - is this wise ?

BTW, the system is running fine, but what bothers me is that two of the 'Windows Boot Manager' entries seem bogus. Also, I don't really know how the entries in any of the Boot Options lists work. I have the SSD device listed in these lists, but it doesn't seem to have any influence in the boot process when I choose it.

I don't have the same MB but what I like to do is select the Windows [aka boot] drive as the primary and ONLY boot drive in the UEFI BIOS and select everything else to "disabled", including other disks, CD/DVD, USB etc. On my MB there are about 8 options, so 7 are set to Disabled. Apart from being more secure, it may even save 1 millionth of a second as the BIOS does not need to check other drives for bootable media.

Resetting the BIOS should not be an issue but you might need to go back and make some minor changes to it. Any overclocking would be lost and need to be redone including any RAM XMP settings. I suspect though that those 'bogus" boot options might still be there if it is a default setting on your board.

Guidance regarding resetting BIOS/UEFI settings-scan_20200806-2-.jpgGuidance regarding resetting BIOS/UEFI settings-scan_20200806.jpg Thanks for the reply. I've attached 2 Jpegs depicting the boot options section of the Bios setup utility (I hope they are readable). What bothers me is that there are 3 Windows Boot Manager entries in the selection list and only one of them (the highlighted one in the list) actually boots into Windows. The other two (entries 1 & 4 in the list) just hang the PC after exiting Bios setup. If you look at the 'Delete Boot Option' page, there are 3 'Windows Boot Manager' entries. When I try to override the boot options by choosing the SSD (VK0480GEMQR), the PC hangs after Bios setup exit.

How many disks do you have in your system? Is it just the one SSD or do you perhaps have other disks connected too? Could it be that there are old partitions on the drives that may have once been boot partitions? if you do have multiple drives, unplug all but the Windows SSD, including your BD-RW and see what the BIOS then shows under the Boot Options.

You can have other boot loaders on other disks that once had windows on it.
Open Disk Manager (C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc) expand the window and the columns so we can read them. With the snipping tool take a snapshot of the whole window, save to your disk and post it here as an attachment.

Guidance regarding resetting BIOS/UEFI settings-capture.jpg Interestingly enough, I have replaced the windows disk twice, which could result in the Bios maintaining a sort of history that resulted in the three 'Windows boot Manager' entries. I did run a BCDEDIT which pointed to the correct \device\harddiskvolumeX where x=2. Ok, I'm still wary about what I'm seeing and don't understand what the Bios is telling me - I have no confidence in AMI's setup utility ! Or I am misunderstanding their documentation. Again, my bottom line is that I want to look at a BIOS system that I can understand and deal with.

Only disk 0 is set as a boot able disk. As it is a EFI-GPT it can be that on the Fat32 EFI partition you have more than one boot loader.
Did you ever had dual boot like win 7 and win 10?
Open msconfig. On the Boot tab, do you see more than one option?

Disconnect external power from the computer.
Then remove the circular battery from the motherboard and leave it out for two minutes.
Whilst it is out, press and hold the power button for twenty seconds, this ensures the capacitors are fully discharged
Replace the circular battery,MAKING SURE of the correct polarity.
Then reconnect and restart and see if your bios has been reset.
If not,in the bios main menu, use the appropriate key to---load optimised defaults----then---save and exit setup---
There is the option of flashing the bios, which can be risky.

From an elevated Command prompt, run bcdedit /enum

    Post the results.
