Black Square behind some of my Folder Icons

Hi, I just had this problem earlier. I had this Folder that has a Black Square behind it. I tried refreshing and it didn't work. I tried moving my files from that folder into another it worked. Deleting it and After refreshing, 4 folders have been affected by this problem. Anyyone knows what the problem is and how can I fix it?
Here is a screenshot of what It looks like. Folder Icons are Enclosed in Black Squares. Help. - Imgur
I'm on Windows 10 by the way.
Also, I have done the following things I've seen that cured problems slightly like mine:
    1. Create a New User Profile. This worked for a few hours and It happened again with some folders.
    2. I also tried resetting my Windows installation. Keeping files in my pc and just the programs and windows installation are new.

I've scoured the net trying to fix this bug and found all your posts about this problem, none with an actual fix. The problem will come up again at some point but not for a while.

    1. Check the hidden items box under the view tab in your folder
    2. go to C:\... Users... Select your user and open up Appdata
    3. Delete the local folder only.

Hopefully we'll get a legit fix to this problem from Microsoft or a computer wizard.

I have the same issue of the OP problem and I don't know what to do about it. I tried the suggestion of fspiral but still the black box thing is appearing randomly on any folder and for no apparent reason!

I have the same problem as well. Windows 10 x64. Can't remember if the problem was right away or if it developed after installing something. The main software I have installed that might have anything to do with it is Adobe CC, but of course it's only a hunch.

    Hello, :)

You might see if clearing and resetting the thumbnail cache may help.

That's what does it for me. What is it a corruption in thumbnails Shawn? I never had this on any other OS version.

If it's corruption, then resetting the thumbnail cache may help. If it's something else, then we'll see.

I had this issue and just right clicked on the icon, choose properties, and uncheck the box that says "attributes read only", then apply......the weird thing is I had to do it twice and then the black box disappeared. Restarted and the black box was still gone, so I hope this helps.

I also had this issue, and fixed it almost as 'flipshark' describes.......right click the head icon... i.e. documents, choose properties, and uncheck the box that says "attributes read only", then apply.
In my case the attributes check box had a black square inside it which disappeared when I unchecked it. Rebooting after this did nothing even after several attempts.
Success came when I unchecked the black square inside the attributes check box to make it disappear then check again to introduce the normal tick. Apply. OK. Reboot.
The thing is.. the attributes read only check box still reverts to a black square inside the box but at least the icons are back to normal.
