    Hibernate immediately reboots

Strange but true - one of my systems will hibernate, sit there for a few moments and then comes back up again.

    Windows 10 Version 2004

    How on earth to fix?

Does it actually reboot, or just come back to an active state from Hibernate? Your thread title and what you describe don't quite match.

When this happens, open a Command Prompt and enter:

    powercfg /lastwake

    See what it tells you.

/LASTWAKE Reports information about what woke the system from the last sleep transition.

    C:\Users\amonra>powercfg /lastwake
    Wake History Count - 1
    Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 0

It's a wake from hibernate, not a reboot.

From the silence - I guess no-one has seen this oddity before.

I assume that this has not always been a problem. What had been done shortly before the problem started?

In Windows 7, Windows Help suggested as one of the standard measures when there was a sleep-related problem - reinstall the display driver in case it has become corrupted.
    - I cannot say that that the display adapter is definitely the cause of your problem, merely that it is a possibility that needs to be eliminated.
    - Using Device manager to update the driver is not sufficient. It just looks for version numbers-dates.
    so
    - If the display adapter was part of the computer when you bought it, go to the computer maker to get another copy of the display driver then install it.
    - If the display adapter was bought separately, go to the display adapter maker then get another copy of the display driver and install it.
    then
    - If the motherboard was part of the computer when you bought it, go to the computer maker to check for any updated Bios then install it.
    - If the motherboard was bought separately, go to the motherboard maker to check for any updated Bios then install it.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Honestly I think this is the first time I've ever tried to hibernate this computer (HP Z800).

    BIOS is latest version.

Have you eliminated the display driver as a possible culprit by following Try3's suggestion above?

First thing I'd do is turn off Fast Startup, see if that makes a difference (after installing the latest display driver).

How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

Looks like the OP is not terribly interested in his issue. Oh, well.
