How did you determine that?

I have 2004 working on my old Dell laptop without problems which I always update first. I won't upgrade my other systems until most of the bugs are solved. This is a worse than usual buggy upgrade best avoided for a while. The is no sign of the update on my 1 year old HP ProBook.

Edit: BTW, only SSD drives are affected by the Trim issue.

Only bug i have with Trim and Defrag is it says its never been ran even though i have run it, that's about it, kind of glad looks like mine is a bug in a way that it never runs it or something.

Repeatedly trimming an SSD will not shorten it's life.

Trim (computing) - Wikipedia

While there is a bug that Windows seems to be losing track of when an SSD has been trimmed last, it's not going to destroy your SSD prematurely. Contrary to some popular conspiracy theories, when the event viewer log shows that Windows really did a defrag operation on an SSD, completely separate from a re-trim, it is not going through and rearranging blocks of data throughout the entire file system. It's going through and cleaning up the file system metadata to ensure it does not run out of room and crash the filesystem:

All the hype over the SSD trim bug is.....well.....hype.

I've just had a look through that video and event viewer logs and it looks like whatever the issue was has been patched as I've not seen any anomalies in my event viewer concerning the defrag/optimize drives feature. And this is with 2 ssd's installed. One regular SSD and one m.2.

I agree, nothing really weird in my event logs either.

I watched the YouTube video. (First Cockney PC support video I've seen.

) I wonder if things have changed since then? I got multiple "defrag" entries on 20 July, but none since. (Today is 23 July.)

I wonder how much wear running "trim" on an SSD does? (It's normallly recommended to be done once per week.)

For me, on the 3 devices it was offered, it was always stable.

totally 1000% agree. There is no "answer", only personal anecdotes from individual experiences.

Well meaning, with warnings, caveats, praises, good stories, horror stories, I heard this, I heard that.... the list goes on and on.

And Faith, with all due respect, the last thing we need is a poll with that thread title.
