How find something in the Registry if I know the path?
99% of the time (maybe even 100%) w/e you're looking for, will be in the top three HKEYs.
The bottom two HKEYs are just storage for copies of the info in the top three.
Lastly... the Registry IS Windows. The stuff you see on your screen is just the GUI, which is usually easier to understand. :)
IMPORTANT...
Editing the Registry, after you get addicted, can be dangerous. So MS even added FILE > Import / Export to give you backup and restore options for the registry BEFORE you start editing, and maybe, after.
After altering a Registry setting, it won't usually take effect until after a reboot.
I can tell already that you are going to become a Registry tweaker. For simple things like programs YOU installed, etc., it pretty simple. BUT, if... no when you start to mess with Windows things, in the Registry, EXPORT a copy of the registry, before you start messing around. Just save it to your desktop as a .reg file.
That way if your "edit" turns out to be the edit that borks some or all of Windows, you will have a clean copy to IMPORT back into the registry so you can try again.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll be careful!!!

Download RegCool - MajorGeeks
RegCool downloaded from Major Geeks will not open. I've also tried downloading it from the author - same result. Message says I don't have permission.
No problem for me. I can download the zip and extract then run, no problem.
I'm not sure why you cannot.
The file I downloaded was RegCool.exe - an executable. I didn't find a ZIP file. Please tell me what line in Major Geeks you downloaded the ZIP file from.........
This is the error message I get when I try to run RegCool.exe. As I said, I didn't get a ZIP file when I downloaded from Major Geeks. Thank you.
I wouldn't mess with a program like RegCool, till you become more than familiar with the Windows Registry as it exists in Windows. Once you have a handle on that, then go wild.
