My internet connection is fast - ~70 Mbps downstream, 19 Mbps up. The folder currently downloading is around 13 Gb. Zipped it will be a lot smaller, but the download has been at it for about 10 minutes now and only downloaded about 470 Mbytes!

Maybe kill this DL and go the Zip file route? Would be a lot faster. Sounds like you are download to the OneDrive folders on your PC. That is like a snail. You want the zip file.Thanks. It is the zip download! I'll go back to the gardening - it's a nice day! I have 4 folders I need to download so I'll set them up to carry on overnight. Maybe will be done by morning - on Tuesday!
Why so slow? I use Dropbox to share files and photos related to care of a mediaeval church I have some responsibility for and that is pretty fast.
I never realized just how slow OneDrive is. Just as a experiment I chose to download my Photo folder. It's been over 15 minutes and it's only up to 429MB out of 3.2GB.
According to a feature in Chrome download (I accidentally discovered earlier today) I have two zip files downloading from OneDrive - speed varies from around 700KB/s to 1,000 KB/s for one and from 0 (yes, zero for tens of seconds at a time) to around 700 - 700 KB/s.
8 hours on from my first post and start of downloads and, yes, still at it. I'll let you know tomorrow if it manages to finish overnight. It's bed time over here. Maybe yours will speed as Europe goes to sleep!
I had to try this myself to see this in action. I have a Gigabit ISP download. Though that is mainly to accommodation multiple devices not getting choked on bandwidth, as a stand-alone download I can easily get 450-600Mb/s. Not with this abomination. I was watching the Ethernet adapter in Performance tab of Task Manager, and when it was not sitting a "0", it was struggling to maintain somewhere between 50Kb/s and 10Mb/s. My estimate of completion was just after the next passing of Haley's Comet.
Hope it eventually gets done for you. Gruesome.

Well, I've given up - life's too short!
I have a reasonably good backup routine on a backup local disc so I was able to go to that and ensure I had up to date copies of important files. Anything which wasn't up to date I looked for on cloud OneDrive and downloaded that. There weren't too many and it took me maybe an hour or so. A damn site faster that using OneDrive's download. In fact I found it faster to open the file and re-save it on a local disc. A bit tedious but faster that what I was trying to do - basically stop using OneDrive as an automatic backup. Now I only have a couple of folders on it - ones with files I might need at a meeting and need to access via my laptop.
So my advice, at the end of this lengthy thread, to anyone interested in using OneDrive is - don't use it for anymore than you have to ie Only use it for files you may need to access when away from home. Reason? If you ever want to stop using it it will be a bit of a nightmare!
